MINDEN — Effective May 27, 2020 in response to Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak’s announcement of our entering Phase 2 of COVID- 19 recovery, Douglas County Community Services is has reopened park facilities including the skate park, horseshoe pits and hard ball courts.

Food Bank of Northern Nevada has multiple sites where they are accepting donations this Friday, May 29, including Friends in Service Helping (also known as FISH) thrift stores in Carson City and Minden.

Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will be conducting a Special meetings on May 26 and 27, 2020 to discuss the possible adoption of the FY 2020-21 Final Budgets for Douglas County; Douglas County Redevelopment Agency; the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden; and the Tahoe-Douglas Transportation District.

Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District encompasses the northern part of the silver state including Carson City and the counties Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humbolt, Lander, Pershing, Storey and Washoe, as well as a part of Lyon County.

The district has never sent a Democrat to Washington. However, there are currently seven Democrats vying for the job, opposing Republican incumbent Mark Amodei.

MINDEN — Douglas County Board of County Commissioners held a special meeting Wednesday regarding recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and economic impacts to local business. The board decided unanimously to draft a letter to Nevada Gov. Sisolak in support of re-opening Douglas County and was to hand-deliver the letter Thursday morning.

With the shutdown of casinos across Nevada on March 18, gaming revenue took the expected hit for the month, down 43.2 percent for Carson City area casinos and down nearly 40 percent statewide, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Carson Medical Group said Wednesday in a Facebook post that some of its employees were exposed to the COVID-19 virus. The medical group, established in 1974 in Northern Nevada, has locations in Carson City, Reno and Minden and employs more than 180 people.

The new website was scheduled to launch in March prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, and will serve as an online information resource even more now for the public to connect to the Sheriff’s Office.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Roads Department installed six new road signs last week that will be activated with a radar detection system once some final preparation is done in the coming days. The new signs will provide drivers a higher level of visual guidance when approaching the curves and improves safety for all drivers.

Douglas County deputies arrested Errol Kerr after he allegedly attempted to hit a deputy with his vehicle during a pursuit, and was tased into compliance after resisting arrest.

A small earthquake, measuring a magnitude 2.2 happened Wednesday morning in South Carson City, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.
