Mike Thomas Lecture Series presents 'Gettysburg'

The next installment of the Mike Thomas Lecture Series is 'Gettysburg' at the Plaza Hotel, Friday, Oct. 14 at 7pm. Don’t miss the story of the pivotal battle of the Civil War. Doors will open at 6:30pm, the lecture will cost $5 and light appetizers will be served.

Curator looks at connection of collection found on eBay and at Fort Churchill

The connection between the Civil War-era Fort Churchill and 21st century eBay comes clear in Nevada State Museum, Carson City’s monthly lecture series Thursday, Sept. 22. Gene Hattori, curator of anthropology, explores the artifacts donated to Nevada State Parks after an eBay auction. The collection was purported to be recovered from the Fort Churchill site in 1957.

Frances Humphrey Lecture Series: Gold Dredges: The Land Leviathans by Rick Martin at the Nevada State Museum, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. The lecture is $8, free for museum members and ages 17 and under.

An in-depth presentation of the origin, operations and economics of giant land based gold dredges from the turn of the 20th century to their decline mid-century, and limited operations in the 1980-1990s.
