Nevada State Museum features photography, insights of 'Beyond Nature’s Light' by Abe Blair

Grand sweeping vistas and geologic rarities fill the Nevada and eastern California landscape with the images of photographer Abe Blair who is set to speak at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 28. Blair’s work is featured in the museum’s current exhibit, “Beyond Nature’s Light.”

Through careful study of a scene and extensive knowledge of his medium, Blair captures the mood and power of natural scenes many never see. In his talk, he will share what he does to capture his vibrant images. (Scroll and double click on photos to enlarge.)
“I am always trying to push the limits of my cameras, whether film or digital. I am traditional in my method, working to get the image correct in the camera without building one in the computer. This makes every finished image a personal success, each with a life and soul of its own,” he said.
Blair studies light and weather patterns over the changing seasons and tries to connect with his surroundings, a path that requires great patience.
“In 1992, my first film camera ignited a passion in me that has burned strong ever since. Shortly after high school, I followed this passion to pursue a career documenting skiing and snowboarding. During those years I traveled the world honing my craft. I learned how to see the unseen light and capture the beauty of our universe. Now I use my camera as a painter would use a brush, focusing on the mood and power of a pre-visualized scene before the camera even comes out of the bag.”
