Carson City Sheriff's Office volunteers recognized at honorary dinner
Volunteers serving the Carson City Sheriff's Office were recognized Saturday night at a dinner prepared in their honor.
"Tonight we celebrate the volunteer services for the Sheriff's Office," said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, thanking all of the volunteers in the room. “Without you, the Sheriff's Office would not function the way it does.”
Meanwhile, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is looking to expand its Volunteers in Partnership program. The agency is looking for persons to assist in citizen patrol, administrative support, front counter reception and the jail visitation program.
Interested individuals are invited to schedule a ride-along or plan time with a volunteer to see if it is right for them.
All candidates will be trained by the sheriff’s office. If you are a retired person and can volunteer from 4 to 8 hours a week, this might be an ideal job for you if you are looking for something to do.
To qualify as a volunteer, you must have a valid Nevada driver’s license, no felony arrest, pass a background check, have good moral character and work well with others in the department and in our community. If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing, please contact the sheriff’s office.
You can either come in person the the Carson City Sheriff’s Office administration building at 911 East Musser Street or contact Ken Smith, volunteer coordinator by calling (775) 887-2020 or (775) 283-7810.
