Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrest dangerous fugitive near Fernley
Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Colorado fugitive Tuesday east of Fernley who was wanted on felony charges, considered armed and dangerous and had made threats to authorities, an NHP Trooper said.
An attempt to locate the suspect, Eldon Lloyd Dick, 55 of Egnar, Colo near Grand Junction was advised statewide.
He had an active felony warrant out of the San Miguel County Court for charges including: first degree felony criminal trespass, child abuse, prohibited use of a weapon, harassment and criminal mischief, said NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber.
Law officers out of Colorado stated that Eldon called dispatch many times over a two day period, warning officers not to approach him. In a statement obtained by the Telluride Daily Planet, Eldon was quoted by dispatch officials as saying “Let’s get down and dirty and see who dies. I don’t give a (expletive) how many I take with me…so come with body bags.”
At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nevada State Trooper Bob Gemmel was patrolling IR80 in the area of mile marker 51, approximately 4 miles east of Fernley. Trooper Gemmel stated that he observed a rider of a motorcycle not wearing a helmet that fit the description of the Eldon. Trooper Gemmel conducted a traffic stop with the assistance of Trooper Mark Fox and placed Eldon safely into custody without incident, Dauber said.
"Trooper Gemmel is a near 25 year employee with the State and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the local area," said Dauber. "This dedication to the profession and diligence of his work is exemplified in this case in which he, without incident, placed a person who specifically stated that they wished to inflict harm to him and others in his profession, safely into custody."
Eldon Lloyd Dick is in custody at the Lyon County Jail awaiting extradition, said Dauber.
