Widespread Facebook outage affects Carson City and Lake Tahoe
If you're having problems logging into Facebook this afternoon, you're not alone. A widespread outage has been reported, stretching well beyond Carson City and Lake Tahoe.
Ironically, Twitter users are tracking the developments.
Not related to the Facebook outage but coincidental in its timing, power was knocked out to about 6,500 customers today in South Lake Tahoe. According to Karl Walquist, spokesman for NV Energy, the outage happened at 11:45 a.m. when a vehicle struck a power pole at the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Golden Bear.
When the vehicle struck the pole it caused two circuits breakers to open at the Meyers substation, Walquist said.
Work crews were able to close those breakers at the substation and power was restored at 12:25 this afternoon.
Areas affected included Pioneer Trail and Black Bart, Lake Tahoe Community College, Sierra Tract and areas around Al Tahoe, Walquist said.
The power pole will be replaced today and there is the possibility of a brief outage if that happens, Walquist said.
