AZZ Galvanizing to build eco-friendly plant in Storey County
AZZ Galvanizing Services, a global provider of steel protection, will build a new plant and fill dozens of jobs at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, according to a joint announcement by the Northern Nevada Development Authority and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.
The new operation, among a network of 43 AZZ hot-dip galvanizing plants in the United States and Canada, is scheduled to be open by January 2016. The company plans to hire up to 60 employees over the first two to three years and will initially look to fill production, maintenance and administrative positions.
“We chose Reno because of all the positive economic development in the area," said Tim Pendley, chief operating officer. "It provides the opportunity to develop this new and untapped market. We’ve been planning the expansion into the Reno area for several years, waiting for the right time to invest in the future of this growing economy. We are very excited to be part of Nevada’s future.”
Hot dip galvanizing is an environmentally conscientious process of protecting steel from decay by alloying zinc on the surface of steel resulting in a maintenance-free corrosion protection that lasts for generations. Galvanized steel is found in housing, schools, bridges, guard rails, power transmission poles, highway signs, light poles, stadiums and numerous other applications.
NV Energy and Northern Nevada Development Authority worked with AZZ Galvanizing while the company evaluated the Sierra Region and went through the site selection process. The company ultimately decided on building in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. NNDA and EDAWN worked as collaborative partners to ensure a smooth expansion to Northern Nevada which included incentive approval and final expansion support. Additional business partners that assisted AZZ Galvanizing include, L. Lance Gilman, LLC, NV Energy, Miles Construction, Storey County Economic Development and Reno Engineering.
“This is yet another example of innovation and industry coming to our region,” said Marshall McBride, Storey County Commissioner. “With several companies recently making their home here, AZZ will be in good company at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. We are happy to welcome them to northern Nevada and wish them great success.”
“We are excited to have this great company expand to Northern Nevada,” said Robert Hooper, Executive Director of NNDA. “The jobs that AZZ Galvanizing will bring to our area are exactly the type of skilled, advanced jobs we need in Northern Nevada. This project is an example of the great collaboration between NV Energy, EDAWN and NNDA. We are grateful to have such fantastic partners.”

“It is exciting to see that AZZ Galvanizing is using revolutionary technology to treat steel not only in an environmentally-friendly way but also to produce a higher quality product. This kind of operation further identifies our region as an attractive place for innovative companies,” said Mike Kazmierski, CEO of EDAWN.” AZZ is a great fit for our community and signifies that the advanced manufacturing sector continues to grow and thrive here.”
