Carson City residents might know Friends in Service Helping, or “FISH,” for their thrift stores and food bank, but a new project with big, long-terms goals, helping a higher level of client, is finally taking shape on Carson City’s main street. The FISH Student Housing Project — completion planned for Fall 2023.

The 9th Annual Progressive Summit is a time for our community to come together to discuss current issues, strengthen movements, and learn how to achieve real progressive victories. On Saturday and Sunday, January 21 and 22, 2023 we will be hosting our two-day Progressive Summit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Again, we’re hosting this event virtually, streamlining the process and keeping us all safe from COVID-19. Dee Dee Foremaster, Executive Director of the Rural Center for Independent Living (RCIL) will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Her presentation will concern the pros and cons of rent control and the need for diversified housing.

Prison officials say 81 percent of the inmates at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the worst outbreak to date in the state’s prison system.

For the second year, the Ron Wood Family Resource Center in Carson City has received a generous donation of more than 2,700 pair of Bombas socks to give to those in need around the community.

Carson City Toyota has presented Richards Crossing, a Nevada Rural Housing Authority affordable housing property, a $1,000 donation to help provide residents household items. Since 1985, Carson City Toyota owners Dick and Mary Campagni have been committed to giving back to the community – for every car sold, a percentage always goes right back into the Northern Nevada community.

Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program has allocated the Nevada Non-Entitlement CDBG Program through the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development the amount of $283,213 to Carson City. From the $283,213, $70,426 has not been funded. This notice is to fund the remaining $70,426.

Six Carson City and one Lyon County project are among 16 statewide recipients of Community Development Block Grant funding through a federal program administered by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, officials announced Monday.

While the building that is housing the Lamplighter bar has undergone many names throughout its long history, owner Cheryl Mathwig said she always connected to its iteration of being the Lamplighter.

Now the bar that was most recently known as Tommy’s Neighborhood Bar has reverted to its old name, and Mathwig is dedicated to bringing back historical touches.
