NDOT hosts public meeting to discuss final segment of Carson City Freeway project

Those looking to know more about the future of the Carson City Freeway and its next phase of construction and final segment scheduled to open in 2017 are invited to a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 17, hosted by the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The meeting will provide updates and a proposed schedule for upcoming phase 2B-3 of freeway construction, which will pave and open the freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner/U.S. 50 junction in south Carson City.
The new intersection of the Carson City Freeway and Highway 50 at Spooner junction is planned as a signalized, at-grade intersection. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2015, with the final segment of freeway projected to open to traffic in 2017, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese. In addition, the meeting will also provide information on proposed landscape and aesthetics.
"This will be the final segment for through traffic on the freeway," said Ragonese. "What is left is still an unfunded overpass across Carson Street that won't affect the through traffic."
Finishing work on the previous phase 2B-2 wrapped up last month, including excavation of nearly 300,000 cubic yards of earth for both drainage detention basins and roadway, construction of nearly two and half miles of storm drain and sewer and water lines and placement of 15,000-plus tons of base and paving. The construction laid the groundwork for the final paving and work on the last approximately four miles of the freeway to be completed as part of phase 2B-3.
The public information meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Carson City Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall building located at 701 Old Clear Creek Rd. in Carson City, NV. The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to discuss the project and provide comments.
