Nevada re-launches website for career-seekers interested in apprenticeships, internships
The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation officially re-launched LifeWorksNV, the statewide work-based learning hub for student career seekers looking for information and opportunities in registered apprenticeship, internships, career and technical education programs, career exploration and more.
Additionally, the website informs employers about how to get involved in work-based learning and how to create an apprenticeship or internship program while also helping educators with information such as career and technical education, in-demand occupations and how to request a classroom speaker with industry experience to speak to students. The website can be translated into 17 different languages, including Spanish.
Funded through the New Skills for Youth (NSFY) Grant, which was awarded by JPMorgan Chase and Co. to the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) in 2017, OWINN spearheaded the redevelopment of the website in collaboration with statewide partners such as the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), the Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR), and the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) in addition to NDE. This alignment of agencies and stakeholders will be instrumental in helping drive positive outcomes for student career seekers, employers, and educators in Nevada.
To successfully navigate today’s rapidly evolving labor market and achieve a positive direction in life, career seekers need access to available options and a set of marketable skills and credentials.
Therefore, the purpose of rebuilding and relaunching LifeworksNV is to help develop the skilled talent needed for the in- demand occupations in Nevada’s various high-growth industries like healthcare, information technology, and advanced manufacturing.
“The world of workforce development and work-based learning in Nevada can be complicated and difficult to navigate. Across the state, multiple agencies and training providers are involved in this important work. For employers and those seeking training, knowing where to go and who to talk to can be frustrating. In partnership with stakeholders across the state, we have put together a website that seeks to draw that information into a platform that can inform, guide, and act as a hub to make the process easier,” said Craig von Collenberg, OWINN’s recent Executive Director.
