Carson City contracts with consultant to inventory trees as part of management plan
Carson City Parks and Recreation and Public Works have contracted with a Sparks consulting firm to provide a city wide inventory of all public tree located along street right-of-ways, city parks, city owned landscaped areas, Eagle Valley Golf Course and Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Dale Carlon Consulting of Sparks has been contracted as the consultant to perform the tree inventory for a cost not to exceed $23,500.
The Urban Tree Inventory Management Plan will include a digitized inventory of tree species, size, and conditions, including GPS coordinates and all pertinent data that will allow city staff to determine priorities for management activities including pruning, planting and removal.
The inventory will allow city departments to keep an updated and accurate work record of all tree maintenance. The final result will be that Carson City will be able to achieve and maintain a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest that will provide important benefits for its residents.
The work will be conducted this summer. Don Carlon Consulting will have employees walking along streets, in city parks and other public areas collecting data on trees. They will be wearing hard hats and orange construction type vests.
This program is being partially funded through an Urban and Community Forestry grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry. For more information please contact the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department at 887-2262.
