Business Spotlight: BooBoo welcomes her buddies to new Carson City pet resort
BooBoo's Buddies, a brand new pet hotel, daycare, boutique and spa in northeast Carson City, held its ribbon cutting Thursday at 1749 Old Hot Springs Road.
But the star of the evening was BooBoo herself.
The seven year-old American Mastiff warmly greeted her guests at the new pet resort, escorting them around and relishing in the attention.
Her humans, Susan Olson and Phill Kenoyer, opened BooBoo's Buddies in hopes of providing a unique place just for pets and a one-stop venue for their pampering.
"I have been wanting to open a pet hotel for more then 10 years and now seems like the right time to do it," said Olson, a nine-year Gardnerville resident originally from San Francisco. "I don't think there is one yet in Carson City or the valley like what we have."
The property features a 5,151 square-foot indoor facility complete with 43 kennels, a spa room with bathtubs, indoor play area as well as a retail boutique up front.
Outside is 19,500 square feet, including a large turfed play area for the four-legged guests to romp around on.
Pet amenities include a safe play rubber mat floor surface indoors and specialized K-9 artificial grass outside. The outdoor play area also features a small wading and swimming pool, agility play ground and treadmill.
Play areas are supervised, Kenoyer said, and pet owners can keep an eye on their furry family members even while they are away.
"The facility is equipped with secure live video feed through out the building both inside and outside," said Kenoyer, a software engineer who moved to Gardnerville from Silver Springs last year. "The clients can see photos and live video stream of their pets."
At the spa, pets are treated to bathing, clipping, grooming, even teeth brushing and breath freshening.
BooBoo's Buddies accepts both dogs and cats, with plenty of room for both overnight boarding and daycare.
Amenities, though, aren't just for pet clients. Their humans can also enjoy front-door service, too.
"We do dog pick up anywhere in Dayton, Carson Valley, including Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Reno and Lake Tahoe area," Kenoyer said.
Olson said this new business venture is the realization of a lifelong dream as an animal lover and long-time pet owner.
"It will be a rewarding experience to work with animals," she said. "It's been a blessing, we have lots of family and friends that help us out with our project. We can't ever thank them enough with what we were able to achieve and accomplish to what we want to accomplish."
A public grand opening is scheduled for this Sunday, April 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at 1749 Old Hot Springs Road behind the Comstock Casino. Two and four-legged friends are welcome to attend.
