Dayton, Nevada – Dayton author Lisa Laterza Selmi will lead storytime at the Silver City Volunteer Library on Tuesday, July 20, reading from her new children’s book. Storytime begins at 10am. The library is located within the Silver City Schoolhouse (community center) at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428.

Selmi’s fun and educational new children’s book Oscar's Big Adventure is an endearing story of an aging dog who reminds us that we are never too old to seek new friendships and adventures.

The sheep are back in Carson City! We are working with two separate groups of sheep - one is grazing behind Greenhouse Garden Center, and the other is currently behind Western Nevada College, between Ash Canyon and Timberline.

Carson Animal Services Initiative, also known as CASI, is proud to offer Understanding Your Pet's Behavior seminar series with Animal Behaviorist Kelley Bollen. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department opened three new segments of trail following an Oct. 30 ribbon cutting. These fun new trails are part of a network of non-motorized paths that connect residents with almost 5,000 acres of Carson City Parks and Open Space within the Carson River/Prison Hill area. Future plans include completing a multi-use path around Prison Hill.

Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a special Full Moon Hike this Saturday, October 31st, at Silver Saddle Ranch. Come experience a full moon costume adventure that can only happen once in a Blue Moon.

Meet at Silver Saddle Ranch dressed in your best Halloween Costume. We will walk to the Carson River and back to ranch in a 2 mile loop. The trail is considered Easy according to the IMBA Trail Rating System.

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest recently released sheep in the Jacks Valley Wildlife Management Fuels Reduction Project area just south of Jacks Valley Road in Carson City, Nev.

Happy Friday Carson City! Pet of the Week has been on hiatus for a little bit, but for a good reason: there were no animals at the shelter for adoption!

However, say hello to Chugg, who is our adorable Pet of the Week today.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.  

Fall has arrived in the Sierra Nevada bringing the steady change of turning leaves and a noticeable chill in the air. The fall season also means bears are actively searching for food, even down into the lower valleys.

Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, have been designated “White Cane Days” by the Carson City Host Lions Club.

Lions will be available at the North Carson Street Save Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days.

A socially-distanced Grand Opening of a new grooming salon, "Wizard of Pawz" in Carson City will be held on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A motorhome is reported to be on fire in the Walmart parking lot.

There are dogs reported to be inside the motorhome, and the engine reportedly “exploded.”

Firefighters and first responders are en route.
