CARSON CITY — Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Girl Scouts of the USA announced Monday there are 24 new badges designed to help girls practice ambitious leadership in the crucial areas of automotive engineering, STEM career exploration, entrepreneurship, and civics, many of which remain male-dominated.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office Reserve Commander Tom Crawford was recognized for his commitment to volunteerism at the annual Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association conference. Carson City Sheriff's Office is seeking volunteers for the Uniformed Reserve Deputy Sheriff Program. The program provides the Sheriff's Office with additional law enforcement resources to better serve the citizens of Carson City.

We focus on strength, dynamic balance and stability, and muscular endurance (yes, that means cardio!) as they relate to winter sports and activities like snow-mobile excursions, snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding, and all the Nordic and back country activities on your list.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) will hold a hiring event in Reno Sept. 22 for candidates seeking a career in law enforcement and public safety.

Friday morning started the Carson City fair's weekend, with events such as the popular dog show, the beginning of the silent auction, and the Youth Livestock competitions.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

BooBoo's Buddies, a brand new pet hotel, daycare, boutique and spa in northeast Carson City, held its ribbon cutting Thursday at 1749 Old Hot Springs Road.

The Carson Nugget is hosting a job fair to fill a plethora of positions in their restaurants and on the casino floor.

Organizers of the Carson City Fair are seeking volunteers to help with a variety of duties.
“We have lots of positions available,” said Lindsay Chichester, chairwoman of the Carson City Fair Board. “We have everything from helping with the youth livestock show to assisting the judging of the static exhibits.”
