Carson City area road report for week of Feb. 22-28

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Feb. 22-28, 2016: There will be intermittent road closures on Washington Street between Roop and Division Streets, Monday through Friday, due to the construction of the East/West Water Transmission Project.

Bus stops on Washington Street, west of Carson Street, will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24, weather pending.

Proctor Street and Telegraph Street will be closed to through traffic between Carson and Nevada Streets, Monday through Friday, during daytime hours due to utility work. In addition, there will be minor delays on Curry Street between Musser and Spear Streets during this time, with possible night work as well.

Utility work will continue Monday through Friday as indicated below, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with possible flagger controlled traffic at the following locations:

— Mountain Street between Fleischmann Way and Long Street. The road will be closed to through traffic Monday through Thursday. In addition, bus stops on Mountain Street, Division Street, and Fleischmann Way will be temporarily closed within the construction area.
— Division Street between Fleischmann Way and Long Street. The road will be closed to through traffic Monday afternoon.
— Long Street between Mountain and Division Streets.
— Fleischmann Way between Mountain Street and Division Street.
— Sierra Circle, Hillside Way, Miller Way, Pine View Way, and Lane Circle.

Lane closures are expected at the following locations due to utility work:
— Presti Lane between Eagle Valley Ranch Road and Medical Parkway.
— Center Drive near Topsy Lane.
— Iris Street between King and Fourth Streets (primarily shoulder work).
— Peters Street between Burton and David Streets (possible full closure with detours at times).
— Nevada Street between Bath and Meyer Streets (shoulder work only).

Race Track Road will be closed to through traffic between Bigelow Drive and Schulz Drive for the entire week.

There will be work on the shoulder of King Street west of Ormsby Boulevard. Two-way traffic will be maintained but the road will be narrowed.

The Bellevue Road bridge over I-580 in Washoe Valley will continue to be closed due to maintenance. The overpass and ramps are expected to be closed for approximately three months. Detours will be signed.

Motorists headed west through the Sierra can expect the following Caltrans road projects happening Feb. 21-27, 2016:

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work continues on a $36 million project to increase the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches. The vertical clearance will be increased on seven structures by lifting the existing bridge deck and the other two will have the roadway below dug down.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Newcastle Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures and on-ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Brace, Gilardi, Horseshoe Bar, King, Penryn and Magra overcrossings for bridge work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Newcastle Road overcrossing: Motorists can expect intermittent full ramp closures to Interstate 80 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday February 22 through Friday February 26 until 7 a.m. Saturday February 27 for bridge work.

State Route 89 (Placer/Nevada County) at the Union Pacific Railroad undercrossing south of Interstate 80: Nicknamed the “Mousehole” project, work continues to construct a pedestrian and bicycle tunnel under the Union Pacific Railroad adjacent to the existing SR 89 undercrossing and construct a Class I paved trail along the east side of SR 89 between Deerfield Drive and West River Street.

State Route 89 (Placer/Nevada County) from West River Street to Deerfield Drive: No traffic interfering work scheduled for this week.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from the junction with SR 174 to the WB off ramp to Bennett Street: Motorists can expect left turn lane on the off ramp and lane one of the surface street closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday February 22-26 for utility work.

State Route 49 - Southbound (Placer County) from Kemper and New Airport Road to Cottage Drive: Motorists can expect right shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday February 22-26 for utility work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) at the westbound I-80 on and off ramps at Farad: Motorists can expect full ramp closure from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday February 23 & 24 for slide removal.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Nevada County) from Mystic to the Truckee River’s Acid Flat Bridge: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday February 23 & 24 for slide removal.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Placer County) from North Long Ravine Union Pacific overcrossing to Magra overcrossing/Rollins Lake Road: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday February 22-25 for tree work.

State Route 174 – Westbound (Nevada County) from Ophir Street to Memorial Lane: Motorists can expect right lane closures (one way traffic control) and right shoulder closures on the local cross streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday February 22-26 for utility work.

State Route 174 (Nevada County) from Route 174/80 separator to Old Grass Valley Road - south: Motorists can expect alternating lane closures (one way traffic control) and right shoulder closures on the local cross streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday February 22-26 for tree work.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Fowler Lane to Rainbow Valley Lane: Motorists can expect lane closures (one way traffic control) and right shoulder restrictions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday February 22-26 for tree work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Lake Forest Road East in Dollar Point to Lardin Way: Motorists can expect intermittent full highway closures at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday for survey work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from the Coloma School House to Mt. Murphy Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) at Rubicon Drive: Motorists can expect intermittent full highway closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday for survey work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Wilson Avenue to Tahoe Tavern Road South: Motorists can expect intermittent full highway closures at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday for survey work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect long-term signalized one-way traffic control for emergency repair work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Carnelian Bay Road to Cambridge/Lincoln Green Drive: Motorists can expect intermittent full highway closures at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday for survey.

An approximately 14 foot by 60 foot mobile home is disabled in the center turn lane at the corner of Fairview Drive and Steamboat Drive in Carson City and has disrupted the flow of traffic. Motorists can expect delays through Monday morning.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the mobile home lost 4 of its 6 wheels while it was being pulled Sunday evening by a truck.

On May 18, 2024, at around 12:50 a.m., Carson City Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Christopher Gorham. A drug-detection canine was used to conduct a sniff of the vehicle. Deputies searched the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia along with an explosive device.

An 1884 Carson City Morgan silver dollar donated by Northern Nevada Coin is being raffled by the Friends of the Nevada State Museum. The raffle will highlight the Tin Cup Roundup fundraiser planned for Saturday, September 21 (5 to 8 pm). Proceeds from the raffle and the event will support the restoration of a 1967 Chevrolet pickup truck for the State Museum.

Deputies are investigating a pipe bomb that was discovered during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday afternoon for felony domestic battery.

Steven Michael was arrested after deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault.

Since creating its Jump Start College more than decade ago, there have never been as many graduates as the Western Nevada College’s Class of 2024 produced.

WNC will honor a record 168 graduates at graduation ceremonies on May 20 in Carson City and May 23 in Fallon.
The program includes nine participating high schools, three academies and homeschool students.

Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects taking place July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.

The City is specifically seeking projects correlating with the City’s FY 2023-2028 Consolidated Plan, approved on August 3, 2023.

Ricardo Serrano Perez was sentenced to 20 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections with minimum parole eligibility of 8 years. Perez was sentenced pursuant to a guilty plea agreement whereby the parties stipulated to the maximum sentence.

Carson High Speech and Debate will be hosting the inaugural Carson High Show and Shine car show Saturday May 25th in the north parking lot of CHS from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A “Stuff the Cop Car With Food” event will be held at Smith’s Food Food and Drug parking lot in Dayton on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10am until 3pm.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

Marie Finkes is the director of FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City, and said that over the past year, there have been 12 bodies under her care that have been subject to extended stays. This is due to the fact that Carson City Public Administrator Scott Hoen has ignored their repeated requests for an electronic signature releasing the body for cremation.
