Carson Mall hosts inaugural health, wellness and safety fair in Carson City
The first annual Carson Mall Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair was held on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Trisha Pagayuan, Promotions Director of the Carson Mall, talked about how the event came about in the community.
“It actually started just thinking about New Year’s resolutions for the beginning of the year," Pagayuan said. "Everyone always thinks about fitness, and we wanted to expand on that."
Health, it turns out, is only part of equation, she said.
"It’s not just about health, it’s about health, overall wellness, and, of course, safety," she said.
Presenting the information in a timely fashion was an important consideration for the mall's event organizer.
"With everything coming up, the New Year’s, all the sports that our region is into, it was important that we had the education out early in the year,” Pagayuan said.
The event was giving away chair massages from Bo Chateau, and the Carson Victory Rollers made an appearance to show some derby demos and how a contact sport could be done very safe.
Nevada Health Centers' Mammovan was parked in the mall's front parking lot, taking clients by appointment for free breast cancer screenings.
Pagayuan said she hoped to see at least 300 bodies in and out throughout the day at the mall, looking specifically to attract visitors from the Carson City, Minden, and Dayton areas.
But everyone from the region was welcome, she said.
“Today we are giving away free kids life-jackets, donated from the Nevada Department of Wildlife and free kids helmets, donated from Land Rover Jaguar of Reno, to cover most of the sports that we participate in year-round," Pagayuan said. "We also have a gala selling women's self-defense items, which is really important throughout the year, and we also have Fitness 1440 here to kinda give us a brief overview on how to stay healthy, how to stay fit as well as some nutrition information. You can get your blood pressure checked at Carson Tahoe Health.”
Families stopped by Saturday for an afternoon of informative vendors and creative ways to connect to each other.
“As far as their health, wellness, and safety, it’s a good family bonding moment as well as to see other thing inside the mall that they can do as a family," Pagayuan said. "Making crafts as a family, they can shop as a family. We’re here to kick off the start of 2017 for reinventing the Carson Mall, for introducing it as a place for families to come for a lot of fun things to happen inside."
