With Thanksgiving leftovers winding down, we're winding up to the second day in December and the first day of the work week ahead, with activities lined up through the weekend. For Monday, activities around the capital city include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, a discussion on the Tom Steyer campaign hosted by the Carson City Democratic Men's Club, art events and more. This Thanksgiving holiday has given us a lot to be thankful for. Let us be grateful for the recent precipitation. Let us be grateful for a climate with minimal plant diseases. Let us be thankful for all the other gardeners out there working to provide habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects. And, let us be grateful for soils teeming with life, filled with organic matter that hold water without drowning plants.

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

The 2019 Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble started bright and early Thanksgiving morning after an overnight snow flurry or two turned the Governor’s Mansion into a Carson City winter wonderland.

With the arrival of Thanksgiving, forecasters say periods of snow and hazardous travel conditions will continue through the holiday weekend and into Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to call for another round of winter storm watches and travel advisories.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

The final touches are in place as the Carson Nugget prepares for its annual Thanksgiving Day dinner Thursday, a Carson City tradition held for more than six decades.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

The generosity of the Western Nevada College community has made it possible to feed 100 families Thanksgiving dinner.  WNC contributed 100 turkeys and other Thanksgiving dinner favorites to Friends In Services Helping’s annual High Five Turkey Drive.

With the window for safe motor travel over the Sierra closing, the National Weather Service says travelers may experience headaches on their return home from the Thanksgiving holiday as another winter storm is brewing and likely to arrive by late Saturday into Sunday.

The popular sentiment this holiday season seems to be, "I'm going to save so much money this Christmas by talking politics at Thanksgiving."

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. RENO — Air travel during the busy Thanksgiving holiday will hit a high in 2019 with Reno-Tahoe International Airport anticipating more passengers departing earlier this year, largely due to the incoming winter storms arriving in the region.

The sixth annual Thanksgiving Day Carson City Turkey Trot is an event the entire family will enjoy and, for many families, it has become as much of a Thanksgiving Day tradition as the big meal itself.

The Fox Brewpub in Carson City is the 2019 winner of the annual Battle of the Bars Turkey Drive, having collected 52 birds in the Salvation Army competition to feed local families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.

A winter storm expected to bring feet of snow to the Sierra and anywhere from 1 to 6 inches to the valley floors during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period is headed our way, with snow expected to arrive late Tuesday afternoon and last through through Thanksgiving, according to the National Weather Service.

The first significant snow-driven storms of the season remain on track to impact western Nevada and Sierra midday Tuesday through Wednesday, coinciding with one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Motorists are advised that if they can do it, they should finish travel over the Sierra by Tuesday morning to avoid long delays and highway travel headaches.

Santa will be appearing at St. Nick's Village, located at Casino Fandango between the Sky Bridge and Galaxy Theater, each Saturday and Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas from 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The first 4X6 photo with Santa is free, and donations will be accepted to benefit The Greenhouse Project.

While it isn't quite Christmas-weather yet, I'm assuming at some point it will get cold and we can finally get into the upcoming holiday spirit! When that time comes, there are a ton of great Santa-related events going on in Carson City for you and the little ones to enjoy.

Everyone knows about Black Friday. Major retailers dishing out major discounts the day after turkey day. Lesser known but widely growing is Small Business Saturday, small business’ answer to Black Friday.

For over six decades, the Carson City Nugget has fed the community a free Thanksgiving Feast. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pie, and more are all served up by local volunteers including those from FISH, the Carson City Board of Supervisors, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and dozens of cheerful community members lending a helping hand.

Heading into the weekend before Thanksgiving, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 25th annual Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair, a “War of the Worlds” play at the Brewery Arts Center, a Chili Bingo Night fundraiser to benefit the Carson Middle School Band, laughs at the Carson Nugget and much more.

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.
