Carson City School Board to discuss potential solution to middle school overcrowding
The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.
A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.
The Superintendent’s Report will include the awards given to Carson High School (CHS) Girls Golf Team Members Karen Beglin, 2019 Seirra League Player of the year and 4A Northern Region Girls Golfer of the Year; Sarah Wiggins, second Team All-Region and Sophia Taggart, Honorable Mention all Region. In addition, the CHS Girls Cross Country Team made NIAA 4A Academic State Champions.
Reports will be made about CHS activities, Pioneer High School (PHS) activities, and an update on the Nevada Association of School Boards.
Winners of the 2019-2020 CCSD Board Sponsored “American Citizen Essay Contest” will be announced by Superintendent Richard Stokes.
A bilingual presentation in English and Spanish will be given on the Structure of the Carson City School District and School Board, hosted by Lupe Ramirez, Nelinda Hernandez-Juarez, and German Fernandez.
A progress update will be given on the School Performance Plan related to the Nevada School Performance Framework for CHS.
Recognition of the 2019 Nevada Association of School Boards award recipients will be as follows:
— Board of Trustees: School board of the year
— Stacie Wilke-McCulloch: Individual School Board Member of the Year
— Mike Walker: New Director of the Year
— Andrew Feuling and Paul Johnson (White Pine County SD): District Level Administrator Impacting Student Achievement
A discussion regarding the newly proposed CCSD Policy 625 will be held, which details teacher school supply state reimbursement.
An informational update will be given on the progress made toward completion of the inspections and feasibility study of the old church property located at 1600 Snyder Avenue.

Nov. 27 - 29: No School Thanksgiving Holiday
Dec. 2: Early release for all students
Dec. 6: Silver and Snowflake Festival Tree Lighting and the Capitol Building, 5:30 p.m. 5th graders will be performing
Dec. 19: Early release for CHS and PHS students only
Dec. 20: Early release for all students
Dec. 23 - Jan. 3: Winter Break; classes resume on Monday Jan. 6
Jan. 16: Joint meeting with the Board of Supervisors, 6 p.m.
