Saturday, November 23
Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway hosted by Postal Annex in Carson City (all day). Shop local with us at Postal Annex and enter to win a Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 with all the trimmings! Carson High Holiday Craft Fair to celebrate 25th year. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Rd. Join us for another unique shopping experience while assisting Carson High School staff and students. The 25th annual Carson High Holiday Craft Fair will be held Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23.

Guided tours of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

Fundraiser Saturday in Carson City for young girl battling brain tumor. 12 to 5 p.m. at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, 301 N. Carson St. A second fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar, 301 North Carson Street in Carson City. This fundraiser is from noon to 5 p.m. For this fundraising event, money sold through Jell-O shots will be donated directly to the family.

Turkey Bingo. 12 to 9 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden. The Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley will be hosting its annual kid friendly Turkey Bingo on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the C.V.I.C. Hall in Minden. There will be three sessions, the first starts at 12:00 pm, the second at 3:00 pm and the third at 6:00 pm.

Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson Street.. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.

Lego Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.

Matilda, The Musical. 2 to 9:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is bringing the internationally acclaimed, high-energy, magical “Matilda the Musical” to Nevada for the very first time!

Spoken history at the Genoa Town Hall. 5 p.m. 2287 Main St. in Genoa. This Chautauqua event features Genoa residents of the past. Chautauquans include Steve Hale as Snowshoe Thompson, the legendary “Mailman of the Sierra” and Kim Harris as Lillian Virgin, the originator of the Genoa Candy Dance and DebiLynn Smith as Anna Harris, early Genoa pioneer business owner.

'War of the Worlds' at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center. 6:30 p.m. in the Brewery Art Center’s Black Box Theatre, 449 W. King St. Orson Welles directed and narrated a radio drama adaptation of H.G. Wells’s novel War of the Worlds. Audiences tuned-in to hear the stories of Martians crash-landing on earth, not knowing it was only a play, and prompted news stories of widespread panic over a nonexistent alien invasion.

Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Saturday Night Star Party at Western Nevada College. 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, 2699 Vanpatten Ave. The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year round, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Carson Comedy Club presents standup stylings of Derek Richards this weekend. 8 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St. Comedian Derek Richards will be performing at The Carson Comedy Club in Carson City at the Carson Nugget this Friday and Saturday.

Live Stand-Up Comedy in the Valley Ballroom. 8 p.m. at the Carson Valley Valley Inn, 1627 Hwy 295 in Minden. Loads of laughs and patriotism on Saturday, November 23 when Live Stand-Up Comedy returns to our Valley Ballroom!

Rock and Roll with Pawnshop at Living the Good Life. 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. A night of music, drinks and food with Northern Nevada's hottest garage band! Come on out and enjoy!

Sunday, November 24
Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd, Carson City, NV 89701, in the south parking lot, next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City!

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter Game Watch. 10 a.m. at Jimmy G’s, 301 N. Carson St. Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host a game watch for Oakland Raiders fans at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The Raiders will take on the New York Jets in New York.

Genoa Craft and Holiday Festival. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Genoa Town Hall, 2287 Main St. The holidays are just around the corner, jump right in and stop by to the Genoa Town Hall for our craft and holiday festival!

The Polar Express Train Ride. 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the V&T Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. The 2019 Polar Express is inviting a limited number of Carson City area youth groups and organizations in the community to be a part of The Polar Express experience by portraying elves at the North Pole each year. For every night the group provides the required amount of elves, chaperones and works all three trains we will donate $100 to the groups for every night they perform.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, school board meeting and annual event.

Additionally, Sandra Guzzetta, special education paraprofessional at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was recognized as the Education Support Professional Employee of the Year, and Chelise Crookshanks, principal at Mark Twain Elementary School, was recognized as the district’s Administrator of the Year.

Tickets are now available for this summer’s Capital City Brewfest. This year’s event takes place June 22 on Curry Street at McFadden Plaza in Carson City. More than two dozen brewers, as well as several food trucks, will line the street from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plus there will be live music on the McFadden Plaza stage.

The Carson City Planning Commission meeting will be held Wednesday, April 24 in the Bob Crowell Board Room of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William St. at 5 p.m.

The agenda includes trail improvements, a therapeutic horse riding academy, a care facility and more.

Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center and Wildcat Veterans Club invite the community to participate in a Walk for Hope on Wednesday, May 1, at 9 a.m.

It's an opportunity to bring awareness to the national and local issue of suicide and identify local resources and learning opportunities for prevention. Veterans and military personnel experience death by suicide at a rate that is about 1.5 times higher than civilian populations.

Every month, the Park Rangers offer various Ranger-Led programs that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures. All programs are offered for free and take place in one of the many Carson City parks and open space areas.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City will host its first "Walking as One at 1" labyrinth walk on Saturday, May 4 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at 314 N. Division at Telegraph.

"Walking as One at 1" happens on World Labyrinth Day each year where participants across the globe engage in a labyrinth walk at 1 p.m. local time. This synchronized practice creates a 24-hour rolling wave of peaceful energy that passes from one time zone to the next across the world. The idea is to collectively contribute to a sense of unity and harmony.

The wise early settlers of Carson City made sure future residents would enjoy the beauty and the endless benefits that come with the planting of trees. What was then but a barren high-desert sagebrush landscape, is today a celebration of the hardiness of trees as well as the early settlers.

On Friday, April 26 at 1 p.m., the Washoe Valley Forum hosts a living history presentation, “The Reno Cure.” Local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff assume the fictive characters of wrangler Clive, and cook/housekeeper Vivian, that worked at a Washoe Valley “divorce ranch” from the 1940s to 1960s.

Local musician Liz Broscoe has released a song that features Lake Tahoe and the challenges to keep it blue, and it could become the next battle cry to protect the lake.

Liz has been working on a new album for over a year and she wrote "Mother Earth" as one of the songs for that album. She had finished writing the song when she saw the videos of the thousands of pounds of trash left on Zephyr Shoals on the 4th of July.

A local family and others aided in the search and location of a missing elderly woman Saturday night in Carson City.

Carson High School named Mikey Hoffer and Selma Works as the 2024 Prom King and Queen. A short coronation ceremony was held during the prom dance. Additionally, Rodrigo Diaz and Alissa Powers were crowned Carson High School’s Friendship Ball King and Queen during that dance Thursday evening in the Morse Burley Gym.

Carson City’s Community Development Director Hope Sullivan will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend.
