Free Thanksgiving at the Carson Nugget

The Carson Nugget will hold its annual free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

No one counts calories at Thanksgiving. However, if you do plan on diet control, you might also consider adding a little exercise to your holiday menu.

Start that turkey and while everyone is still asleep go outside for a long walk. Exercise during the holiday will lower your stress level, slow you down, and maybe even keep you away from the refrigerator.

Midget football Snow Bowl fundraiser

The Carson City Pop Warner Jr. Midget Team recently won the 2010 Snow Bowl and are going on to regionals in Santa Clara, CA Thanksgiving Weekend and then possible on to the national level. The team is currently trying to raise fund to be able to travel to compete at the higher levels. There will be a fundraiser Monday, November 22nd at the Dairy Queen on Highway 50 East in Carson from 6 pm-9pm. Also monetary donations can be made. Nutcracker Ballet at the Carson City Community Center

Get into the holiday spirit as Pinkerton Ballet Theater presents its 22nd annual production of The Nutcracker Ballet, to be held at the Carson City Community Center on Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving Steam Up on The V&T No. 25

What would a Thanksgiving holiday be without a steam train ride? The V&T No. 25 will be chugging down the tracks on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 26-27. Come on down and enjoy the ride. Departures both days will be every 40 minutes from 10am to 4pm. Turkey Roundup at Mike's Pharmacy

Thanksgiving food donations will be accepted on Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mike's Pharmacy, 1007 N. Curry Street. On hand will be News Talk 780 KOH AM's Ross Mitchell and Monica Jaye from 6 to 9 a.m. and talk show host Bill Manders from 3 to 6 p.m. This is the 12th annual event. Model Dairy will be contributing a trailer to keep the turkeys cold.

Dayton Food Pantry makes plea for Thanksgiving turkey donors

With an unemployment rate of nearly 20 percent in Lyon County, the Dayton Food Pantry has seen a big jump in requests for Thanksgiving food baskets and is asking the community for help.

Food Pantry Director Freida Carbery reports that while many individuals and groups have donated turkeys and trimmings, there are already 100 families in need on the Pantry list, and only 40 turkeys in the freezer. The Pantry's list of those in need doesn’t even include the numbers of families she expects to receive from the local schools this week.

V&T Holiday Train from Carson City to Virginia City on Saturday

Artisan Cafe Moving into City Cafe


The City Cafe has only been closed for a few weeks, but already there’s a replacement business moving in. The Artisan Bakeworks Cafe is an offshoot of the Artisan Cafe in the Brewery Arts Center, and it should be able to slide right into the space with a minimum of renovations. They’re looking at opening around Thanksgiving.
