Capital City Tradition: Carson Nugget prepares for annual community Thanksgiving dinner
The final touches are in place as the Carson Nugget prepares for its annual Thanksgiving Day dinner Thursday, a Carson City tradition held for more than six decades.
The Carson Nugget Hotel and Casino along with Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, will host the 62nd Thanksgiving Community Feast, where all are invited for a free holiday dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pies and more.
"This tradition is the largest and longest running community event in Carson City history. The Carson Nugget’s staff and management, along with many members of the community, volunteer their time to serve the wonderful people of Carson City," said Carson Nugget owner and general manager Dean DiLullo. "The feast is absolutely free and open to the public."
According to Jim Peckham, executive director of FISH, 200-plus meals are delivered to and eaten with home bound residents via local church members who join together as a part of “Grace Works.”
Another 800-plus people will enjoy their dinner in the Nugget Ball Room with all the fixin’s and interacting with local dignitaries who will work as food servers and waiters. All are welcome and everything is free.
The feast will begin at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, and will run until 1 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street in the upstairs banquet room.
This annual event is sponsored by FISH, the Carson Nugget and the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.
