University of Nevada, Reno updates status of Argenta Hall explosion
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/16/2019 - 6:26amSince last week, when the State Fire Marshal announced preliminary findings regarding the cause of the explosion that damaged Argenta and Nye Halls on July 5, the University has made significant progress in several areas regarding the students affected, making arrangements for the upcoming Fall 2019 semester and planning for the longer-term. In the meantime, it looks to be another fine day in the capital city. Ahead there's a youth mountain bike camp, a presentation by an AARP lobbyist, art showings and more.
Truckee Meadows Fire update on Jasper Fire: crews work into the night on containment
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 07/13/2019 - 6:04pmUPDATE SUNDAY: Crews worked overnight toward securing the fire perimeter, according to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. As of around 6 a.m. containment was at 30 percent. Command has been transferred to Sierra Front Type 3 Incident Management Team. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire burned around 800 acres.

The Truckee Meadows Fire District advised those near the ongoing Jasper Fire should be prepared to evacuate at any time.
Board of Supervisors to discuss increasing residential unit building permit caps per year

Vaccine Voucher offered by Health and Human Services for Back to School Requirements

She has served as a volunteer advocate on behalf of legislation impacting seniors. At the luncheon, she will review the AARP-advocated bills that successfully became law during the 80th session, as well as others that didn't cross the finish line, including those likely to reemerge during the 81st session in 2021.

When families come to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, they are typically in desperate conditions.
“We see 80 percent of our clients in the last couple of weeks of the month,” explained Joyce Buckingham, executive director. “They have reached the end of their SNAP benefits or their social security or other benefits.”

Reno-Tahoe International expects 12 percent travel increase during July 4 holiday period

Nevada librarians catalog virtual reality content for worldwide access

Nevada participants gathered at the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records in Carson City to input the first virtual reality content into WorldCat OCLC, the world’s largest library catalog.
