Carson City supervisors to discuss funding allocations, budget augments

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

To be discussed are funding, contract purchases, grants, special event costs, and more.

Carson City DMV paving begins Monday, to impact parking through summer months

Parking at the Carson City Department of Motor Vehicles office will be noticeably impacted through the end of July as the second phase of a drainage and parking project begins Monday, June 3.

Carson City Airport Open House to Benefit Eagle Valley Children’s Home

The Carson City Airport, in partnership with the Eagle Valley Children’s Home, will host the 2019 Open House and Fly-In on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 8:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. The event takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nevada.

Entry to the event is free to the public and draws thousands of visitors annually. Proceeds from new programming will benefit local non-profit, Eagle Valley Children's Home.

Woofs, Wine and Whiskers, a purr-fect evening

Carson Animal Services Initiative would like to thank everyone who joined us on May 18 for our annual Woofs, Wine and Whiskers wine tasting event. Once again people came together to help animals in need, and we are grateful!
CASI continues to assist the community through our Critter Fixer low-cost spay/neuter voucher program for low-income applicants.

Carson City Attorney, Amber J. Handy, Selected as 2019 State Bar Award Recipient

Earlier this month, the State Bar of Nevada announced the recipients of the 2019 Membership Awards. Among those selected was local Carson City attorney, Amber J. Handy.

Attorney Amber Handy received the 2019 Young Lawyer of the Year Award, which recognizes the professional and public service achievements of Nevada attorneys either under the age of 36 or those engaged in the practice of law for fewer than five years.

Annual Special Olympics Nevada Summer Games held this weekend in Reno

More than 300 Special Olympics athletes from across the state will converge this weekend in Reno for the annual Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) Summer Games. The torch was carried through Carson City Friday on its way to the games.

32 Carson City School District employees to retire, honored for their dedication to education

Thirty-two employees who have worked a collective 671 years with the Carson City School District will retire this year. The retirees were recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, May 28.

The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation is hosting a Memorial Day Service today, noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

Among the order of service was a noon Raising of the Colors. The service will feature a presentation of the Colors by the Carson City Division of US Naval Sea Cadets, the National Anthem, Invocation. At around 1 p.m. there will be the introduction of speakers, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen and U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei followed by A Memorial Day Tribute by the High Desert Post 56 All Veteran Honor Guard, closing remarks and a Benediction.

Prominence Health opens new Carson City Care Center

A Grand Opening was held Wednesday evening for the new Prominence Care Center in Carson City, presented by Prominence Health Plan in partnership with Vera Whole Health.

The new facility opened at 180 E Winnie Lane in Carson City, and it is accessible to plan members through the Carson City School District, as well as Prominence Medicare Advantage Members.

Carson City Rotary donates five bus shelters for Jump Around Carson (JAC)

A donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City has allowed Carson City to purchase five bus shelters for the Jump Around Carson (JAC) transit system. This $3,000 donation serves as the critical local funding required to leverage an existing federal grant for the purchase, which totaled $40,000.
