WNC Celebrates HSE Recipients, Honor Society Inductees, College and Career Transition Students

It was a celebration unlike any other for family and friends of Western Nevada College’s Adult Literacy and Language program honorees on Thursday night at the Carson Nugget Hall on the Carson City campus.

The AL&L program honored an outstanding group of High School Equivalency recipients, National Adult Education Honor Society inductees and College and Career Transition students to salute the transformation in their lives through a return and embracing of education.

Carson City Triad presents workshop: Legal Documents Every Senior Should Have

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Triad presents “Get Your Ducks in a Row – Legal Documents Every Senior Should Have” by Colby Prout of Nevada Legal Services Tuesday, May 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants who attend will learn about intestate succession, small estates, will basics, avoiding probate and will be provided with information about powers of attorney.

Nevada jobs up in April, unemployment lowest in 13 years

CARSON CITY — Employment in Nevada increased by 2,800 jobs in April and is up 49,600 over the year. The state’s unemployment rate decreased over the month by 0.2 percent to 4 percent and is down half a percent compared to April 2018, according to figures released Wednesday from the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Is it March or May? Cold, windy and wet storms through Tuesday

An unusual and persistent weather pattern will send cold Pacific storms into the Carson City region Wednesday through early next week, a pattern that is more typical of early March rather than late May.

For Carson City and throughout western Nevada we can expect periods of rain and strong gusty winds and for the Sierra, heavy wet snow starting at around 8,000 feet and dropping to 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Nevada Letters About Literature student competition winners named; advance to national competition

Nevada Humanities has announced the winners of the statewide Letters About Literature program. 243 students from Nevada submitted entries to the national competition at the Library of Congress, and nine Nevada students placed in the top three of their respective judging categories and will be honored in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. The first place winners in each category will represent Nevada at the national competition in Washington, D.C.
