Vail Resorts, Douglas County foundation announce climbing wall lifetime naming agreement

Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.
Dance at Carson City Senior Center this Friday with Live Music by 'The Grumpy Old Men'

Tickets are $10 are person available at the door. Live music provided by The Grumpy Old Men. Enjoy social ballroom dancing and line dancing and have fun "doing your own" style. Participants are encouraged to bring a store-purchased snack to share.

CORE Construction Announces New Vice President and Celebrates New Project Developments

The firm announced the promotion of Travis Coombs to Vice President of their Northern Nevada operations. Since entering the construction industry in 2001, he has established trusting relationships with design partners, building partners and clients. Coombs joined CORE in 2013 and has served in several departments. In his new role, he will now lead business strategy and development Northern Nevada.

Central Lyon County investigates Silver Springs fire involving structures, vehicles
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/15/2019 - 4:02pmUPDATE TUESDAY: Fire Chief Rich Harvey from Central Lyon Fire tells News 4-Fox 11 that six to ten out buildings, about a dozen cars and two homes were destroyed by the fire. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5:09PM: A Lyon County battalion chief said Red Cross will be notified that occupants from three separate residences have been displaced in what he described as "a significant event."

UPDATE 4:59PM: Central Lyon County Fire reports forward progress of the fire was stopped at 4:55 p.m. The cause is under investigation. It is unknown at this time how many structures, vehicles and other property have burned.

UPDATE 4:45PM: Lyon County has opened a shelter at the Silver Springs Community, Senior Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs.

UPDATE 4:32PM: Central Lyon Fire and other agencies are fighting the wildland urban interface fire in Silver Springs. Resources from Yerington, Storey County, Lyon County Road Department and Carson City are responding. EMS is establishing a triage area, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page. All people are advised to stay out of the area.

Central Lyon County Fire Protection District responded Monday afternoon to a fire in the area of Truckee Drive, Esmeralda and Pueblo streets in Silver Springs that in which structures were fully involved in fire.

Is the persistent series of cold weather systems normal or not? We spoke with a forecaster from the National Weather Service about it and he noted that everyone has an opinion. Some folks swear this happens every Spring, storm after relentless storm through the entire month of May. Tickets are $6, and include pasta, garlic bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Kids under 5 eat free.
