The Nevada National Guard is set to begin setup of drive-through community based collection sites, beginning in Carson City and rotating to a number of mobile locations in the Quad County region of Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

Well before dawn, a kitchen crew arrives. Ovens are turned on; food is pulled for today’s meal. Sheet pans are lined, steam pans are filled. Hundreds of disposable cups, trays and lids line the countertops ready to be filled. The crew preps intuitively – they’ve done this many times before. The crew is the Carson City Senior Center. It’s just another morning at the Carson City Senior Center.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Due to the continuing health and safety concerns surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19), the Carson City Senior Center is closing the Senior Center to the public.

The Carson City Republican Women's Club will hear former U.S. Senator from Nevada Dean Heller at its upcoming luncheon, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Casino Fandango in Carson City. Senator Heller will address the current political atmosphere. Social time is 11 a.m. and the meeting will be called to order at 11:30 a.m.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell delivered a proclamation Thursday honoring March for Meals. On March 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older.

Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. Lyon County Senior Centers in Dayton, Fernley, Silver Springs and Yerington announced Wednesday that they will be participating in the 18th annual March for Meals – a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home. Lyon County Senior Centers celebrations will include various activities throughout the month of March.

Heading into the middle of the work work, more sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap for Wednesday with highs in the mid-60s. Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.

The thaw continues around the capital city as we head into Tuesday with highs expected in the mid-50s. Events lined up feature morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, Carson City TRIAD will give a presentation at the senior center on scams targeting older adults. Also on tap, the Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents a Jimmy Stewart favorite "You Can't Take it With You" at the BAC; if you love music, there's Big-Band Jazz X2 at the Carson City Community Center, and you can join Carson Now as it celebrates its 10th anniversary at Living the Good Life.

CARSON CITY — Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Nevada Triad presents Scams Targeting Older Adults a presentation designed to educate you on the current trends in frauds and scams and learn how to not fall victim to their ploys. The event will take place in the Joshua Tree Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 p.m.

The University of Nevada, Reno Student Outreach Clinic will be hosting a Rural Outreach Clinic in Silver Springs this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Screenings and exams include blood pressure and hypertension checks, diabetes screenings, wellness exams, clinical evaluations, as well as child influenza vaccinations.

Letter to Mayor, Dear Mayor Crowell: I am the Carson City Chapter President of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada. The group is dedicated to issues important to senior citizens and is active in monitoring actions both statewide and nationally that concern the status of Social Security and pension. I would like to make you aware of recent events that are of concern to my group.

When disaster strikes, emergency response teams ramp up quickly to safeguard lives. Providing immediate shelter is often a first priority. In order to practice and ensure the safety of our residents, the Red Cross of Northern Nevada, in collaboration with emergency management from Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties, will set up two simulated shelters next month.

Looking ahead into the midweek we can expect cooler temperatures to go along with sunny skies and daytime highs near 50. Wednesday events include a yoga class, the first of what will become monthly "Welcome Wednesday" luncheons at the Carson City Senior Center, a new shift of hours and days at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

The Carson City Senior Center will be holding Welcome Wednesday Lunches on the third Wednesday of every month beginning February 19, at 10:30 a.m.

The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) will host the organization’s annual meeting and member celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The evening will feature trails information and updates, complimentary refreshments, raffle prizes, and a no-host bar. The event is free and open to the public.

Early Voting for the Democratic Presidential Caucus will be held at the Dayton Senior Center Saturday, Feb. 15 only from 10am to 6pm. Nevada's Democrats will have an opportunity to cast early votes for up to five candidates, in preference order, who are still in the running for delegates to the county, state and national conventions that will select the Democratic nominee for November's presidential election. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Heading into the first Monday of February, we're hoping your post Super Bowl day is filled with a few extra dollars in your pocket, tasty leftovers for lunch and some good-hearted conversational quarterbacking. Activities around the capital city include a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Consort Canzona, an early music performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will begin rehearsals on Monday, Feb. 3, for their May concerts. The program features Madrigals from the Renaissance through the Baroque, and includes separate and combined instrumental and vocal selections. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive.
