Students in Carson City School District are on spring break this coming week. School resumes on Monday, April 13. The week that they return from break will be extremely busy for leadership students, as they will be decorating for three major events to be held April 16, 17, and 18.

Usually if you were offered the chance at hunting a premier big game species anywhere in Nevada, you would think that’s a pretty good deal. With the Silver State Tag, however, that’s just the beginning.

The Silver State Tag already allows hunters the opportunity to hunt one of four big game species (mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Nelson (desert) bighorn sheep and pronghorn antelope) anywhere in the state, but this year the winner could also walk away with thousands of dollars’ worth of hunting gear and services.

CARSON CITY — Dennis Hof, owner of the world-famous Bunny Ranch legal brothel, star of HBO's hit series "Cathouse," and best-selling author of Judith Regan's "The Art Of The Pimp: A Love Story" is adding the title of "job creator" to his resume with the announcement that he is now hiring a team of "brothel testers" to oversee "quality" control at each of his seven Nevada legal brothels.

"The job is exactly what it sounds like," says Hof. "You get paid a full-time salary to have sex with beautiful girls--and then evaluate their performance."

Capital City Reads is Carson City Library’s annual city-wide book club. It is a program that brings people together through the reading and discussion of a common book.

This event runs in conjunction with National Library Week (April 12-April 18); an annual celebration sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library.

The Greater Nevada Credit Union branch at CHS recently sponsored a Mural Contest open to all Carson High Students. All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. Students and staff are encouraged to come by and see her winning mural at Carson High School. Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the students who entered.
 

Homemade Easter baskets for infants to adults are available. Prices range from $5-$30. They are available at 2650 Carmine St. #9 (in the back) in Carson City. Baskets are available for sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates: March 29, April 3, April 4, and April 5.

The legendary 1860s mail carrier trail known as the Pony Express, which used horses and riders to deliver letters and parcels from Sacramento to east of the Rockies, remains a big part of Nevada's Wild West history because the trail went through the Silver State. Beginning next month the Pony Express will become a permanent fixture and a Carson City visitor destination.

Former Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee, is coming to Carson City, and one resident, in particular, is tuning up his voice for the conservative icon's visit.

Friday night saw the beginning of Spring Fling Week at Carson High School with the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported FBLA’s efforts to raise money for the March of Dimes. The next week is filled with events for student to celebrate springtime.

Tickets for the April 17 inaugural Carson High School Father-Daughter Cinderella Ball, a fundraiser for four school clubs, are on sale today, Saturday, through noon at Carson High on the north foyer of the big gym, said nglia Golik, CHS teacher, organizer and Senator Square columnist. She will be at the high school next Saturday as well from 9 a.m. to noon.

The enchanted evening will held at Senator's Castle, Carson High School, on April 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Browsers Corner Book Store is having a big St. Patrick's Day book sale from Monday, March 16 through Saturday, March 21. EVERYTHING in the book store will be sold at half price.
The sale includes all hard cover and paperback books, DVDs, videos and special items. In addition, members of the Friends of the Library will receive an extra 10 percent off on Monday, March 16th if they bring in their membership card. The book store is located at 711 East Washington Street in Carson City and is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Howard Hughes’ former Lake Tahoe estate found its way back to the spotlight recently when it was selected as a winner in HGTV’s 2014 Doory Awards. The quaint-yet-majestic cabin, listed by Chase International’s Karen Bruno, received the most online votes in the Celebrity Homes category. The month-long contest on HGTV’s FrontDoor.com attracted nearly 50 million views.

The wine walk is on the top of the weekend to-do list for many of you, but Carson City has a lot more going on. Ascent Runs is hosting a 5/10K and a half marathon at C-Hill on Saturday. You can register at the race, just make sure you aren’t late. Youth Football season has arrived with sign-ups for SYFL and Pop Warner on Saturday. Cheer on the Western Nevada College Wildcats as their Baseball and Softball teams battle against Salt Lake City Community College.

Every first Saturday over thirty shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. Just a reminder that proficiency testing is this week at CHS. Students taking the proficiency tests will begin their school day at the regular time of 7:45 a.m., while those not taking the proficiencies will start their school day at 10:30 a.m. The following tests will be given on the assigned days — March 2: Math; March 3: Reading; March 4: Writing; and March 5: Science. Tickets go on sale Monday for the inaugural Carson High School Father-Daughter Cinderella Ball, a fundraiser for four different clubs at CHS. The enchanted evening will held at Senator's Castle, Carson High School, on April 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This community event is open to all ages of girls. One Princess from each elementary and middle school in the Carson City area will be crowned that evening, and one from a pre-school age group as well. There is no age limit for this event.

On Wednesday Feb. 25, 2015, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office conducted an “Alcohol Sale to Minors Compliance Check.” Of the 27 local businesses that were checked, two failed to fall into compliance.

The Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary is sponsoring a Spring Book Fair and Sale in the lobby of the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. A Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony charges including possession of methamphetamine for sale after officers found a jar containing several bindles of powder and crystal form of the drug, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
