Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of Oct. 24-30

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 24-30, 2016. This is the final week of work on the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project along Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Carson Street will be one lane in each direction with lane shifts through the week during daytime hours.

— Sunday night through Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m., there will be lane shifts for final striping.

— At this time, all side streets should be open.

Days of closures subject to change due to weather issues. Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, including a road closure, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility/road work:
— U.S. 395 between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue will have single and double lane closures in both directions between Monday-Thursday, 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

— U.S. 395 between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue will have a single northbound lane closed between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.

— Snyder Avenue at the intersection of Bigelow Drive will be reduced to one lane, Monday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

— College Parkway access onto and off I-580 will have lane reductions, Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

— Research Way and College Parkway intersection will have traffic controls with single lane closures, Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., turning movements from Research Way on to College Parkway will be limited to right in and right out only.

— Street parking will be restricted on Minnesota Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets, Tuesday all hours.

— Street parking will be restricted on 3rd Street, from Division to Nevada Streets, Tuesday all hours.

— Street parking will be restricted on 2nd Street, from Minnesota to Thompson Streets, Tuesday all hours.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work. Please follow detours:
— Robinson Street will be closed between Fall and Stewart Streets, Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

— Topsy Lane will be closed between Center Drive and U.S. 395, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only.

— Bigelow Drive will be closed to through traffic at Snyder Avenue, Monday-Tuesday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

— Jeanell Drive will have intermittent closures, from Michael Drive to Winnie Lane, Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Here is the Lake Tahoe and Sierra area road report from Caltrans for the week of Oct. 23-30, 2016:
October 23-29
— State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in summer 2017.

October 24-28
— State Route 89 (Placer County) from Oak Street to Cherry Street and from St. Michael’s Court to Sugar Pine Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to noon Friday for pavement grinding and curb and gutter work.

— State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in later this fall.

— State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Upper Emerald Bay Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work.

— State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks are being built in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway is being resurfaced. Completion is expected later this fall.

No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway.

— State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements. Completion is expected this fall.

October 24-28
— State Route 28 (Placer County) from Beach Avenue to Deer Street and from Fox Street to Beaver Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

Short-term Projects
— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Red Hawk: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday for bridge work.

— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 5 Mile Road/Paul Bunyan Road to 8 Mile Road/Cedar Grove: Eastbound motorists can expect left-turn pockets closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends during Apple Hill season for safety reasons.

— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Sly Park Road to Carson Road: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed at various locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree work.

— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Strawberry Lodge Drive to Johnson Pass Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday for pavement striping.

— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at the Upper Truckee River Bridge in Meyers: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for bridge work.

— U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the Echo Summit Bridge to Cinugu Street in Meyers: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday for pavement repair work.

— State Route 89 (Placer County) from Oak Street to Cherry Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for pavement work.

— State Route 267 (Placer County) from the junction with Interstate 80 in Truckee to Commonwealth/Kingswood Drive in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for snow pole installations.

— State Route 267 (Placer County) from Carnelian Bay Avenue to the junction with State Route 28 in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for recessed pavement striping.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Douglas County officials have announced that construction will begin soon on the first phase of the Muller Parkway Project.
