Congressman Amodei, a Carson City native, and four term congressman will be talking about current events in our nation's capital.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. A native of New York, in 2003 Conine earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, and in 2013 he completed his JD from UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law.

Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

A blockchain primer will be the focus of Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon this Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Gold Dust West.

Heading into the first day fall, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 we are looking at cool temperatures as a cold front passes through before a warming trend starts up Tuesday. Events include an estate planning seminar at the Carson City Senior Center, a guest presentation by the executive editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal at Round Table Pizza in Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Brian Duggan, Executive Editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal, the only daily newspaper still published in Northern Nevada. He will describe the challenges of putting out a new edition every 24 hours in the brave new world of online competition, private equity acquisitions and print journalism consolidation, even while plans unfold to build a new police headquarters right where the RGJ's newsroom now stands.

One of the most historic events affecting the American Business Women's Association was the proclamation of September 22 as American Business Women’s Day. Enacted in 1983 by a joint resolution of Congress and the signature of then-President Ronald Reagan, the proclamation recognized all working women. Thirty-six years later, ABW Day continues to be recognized as a celebration of achievements of business women, members, and the Association.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Walden, President of GreenUP!, a nonprofit that has established a green dining district along Carson Street. The district's purpose is to help restaurants reduce all waste streams, with a strong focus on food waste. Accompanying her will be Angela Bullentini Wolf of Gather, who will describe that restaurant's experience implementing green practices.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. Heading into the final week of August and the Labor Day weekend around the corner, Monday, August 26 looks to be another especially hot day across the capital city and western Nevada with highs in the mid-90s. Activities around the capital city include a talk about earthquake preparedness with Carson City's fire chief, art showings, a clay club ceramics class at Western Nevada College, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more. Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Democratic luncheon. His presentation will focus on raising citizen awareness that western Nevada is at a significant earthquake risk, and of measures that can be taken to prepare for the worst in the event of a seismic event.

Kathryn McCool, executive director of Reciprocity Inc., will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Carson City Democratic luncheon. As Senior Program Officer at the State Department of Corrections, she has managed the re-entry program at the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs since April of 2013. She founded Reciprocity, Inc. in 2014.

Heading into the first day of the work week, if you're an early, early riser or are settling in for the night, you'll want to step outside at around 3 a.m. for the peak of the Perseid shower, which will be in the eastern sky. UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. Fred Lokken, political science professor at Truckee Meadows Community College, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Always an insightful and provocative observer of the political scene, Prof. Lokken will share his views on the outcome of the 80th legislative session as well as the rapidly developing race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Heading into Monday, July 15, 2019 the Carson City region is looking at sunny skies, breezy conditions and a slight cooling trend over the next couple days, according to the National Weather Service. In the meantime, it looks to be another fine day in the capital city. Ahead there's a youth mountain bike camp, a presentation by an AARP lobbyist, art showings and more.

Featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Mary Liveratti, who served as AARP's Nevada state president for six years before retiring in 2018. She has served as a volunteer advocate on behalf of legislation impacting seniors. At the luncheon, she will review the AARP-advocated bills that successfully became law during the 80th session, as well as others that didn't cross the finish line, including those likely to reemerge during the 81st session in 2021.

Heading into Monday, July 8, 2019 we want to give a big shout out to all the local organizations and agencies that made this Fourth of July weekend around the Carson City region one to remember. For Monday we're looking at a number of events including a basketball camp at the MAC, a children's theater camp, a local talk with the Carson City Airport manager, art activities, line dancing and more.

Ken Moen, Carson City Airport Manager, will be the featured speaker at the Monday's Democratic luncheon. He came to the job well prepared in 2018 after careers in air traffic control, publishing, and airport management with the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority. He will touch on the ways in which recently-passed AB406 will strengthen management at the Carson Airport Authority. He will also give a preview of the airport's open house coming up on Saturday, June 29th.

Heading into Monday, the first day of July 2019 we leave an action-packed weekend behind us with a long Independence Day holiday week ahead. The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, program director at Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). A 501(c)(3) non-profit, RSVP has a 43-year record of service to the elderly and other citizens in need of assistance in all 15 of Nevada's rural counties. Volunteers 55 and older are provided meaningful opportunities to draw on their lifetime of experience to serve their communities in a variety of settings.
