Procession for fallen firefighters travels through Carson City

A procession was held for Will Hawkins, 22 of Reno and Jacob M. O’Malley, 27, of Zephyr Cove which began in Reno and went to Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
Fire crews in Douglas County called to vegetation fire in Pine Nut Mountains

Along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are still on scene working a fire that is estimated to be 15-20 acres in size and 10 percent contained on private property and BLM land. East Fork Fire is the lead agency and working with BLM, Nevada Division of Forestry and US Forest Service. The fire is located in the Ruby Hill Mine area near Pine Nut Road #2 and Out R way in Gardnerville.

The adult driver of a Subaru who hit the 17-year-old female also remains in the hospital. Alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor at the time of the crash, law enforcement officers said.

It was one of several unfamiliar drugs that his fellow officers might across, warned Chaney, a drug-recognition expert and member of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office’s Special Enforcement Team.
Deaths in Lake Tahoe attributed to cold water shock, not hypothermia

Drowning incidents from boating, paddling and swimming often share the same cause, "cold water shock," an involuntary gasp reflex caused by sudden immersion in cold water. Swimmers and boaters suddenly exposed to the cold waters of Lake Tahoe may experience rapid breathing, gasping, fainting, muscle failure and immediate risk of drowning.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday at Mills Park with Thursday a practice day for the competitors. The big events that bring the most spectators and participants will be on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature music, vendors, food, demonstrations and contests.

Marine unit to hold day, night-time air training exercises near Minden-Tahoe Airport

The unit will fly personnel and equipment in Marine aircraft to conduct training exercises in the adjacent areas. To ensure the training is realistic, some flights will occur after dark, increasing local air traffic.
