Man shot dead by police after attempting to drive through downtown Reno wing festival
A man who crashed a van into a booth at a downtown Reno event Sunday afternoon died after an officer-involved shooting, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m., when the driver of a silver minivan failed to stop for a Reno motor officer in the area of South Park and Kuenzli, said Washoe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bob Harmon. The driver then went along East Plaza toward Biggest Little City Wing Fest on North Virginia.
The suspect tried to drive through the barricades and reportedly swerved in the direction of a Reno police officer, attempting to hit him, said Harmon. Another officer fired his weapon, striking the man. He was taken to Renown Medical Center where he later died.
Reno law enforcement officials have not named the suspect and are investigating the incident and the motive. There were no other injuries associated with the incident. Follow the developing story at MyNews4.com here.
