Carson City Sheriff's Office steps up speeder patrol efforts for remainder of June
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada, are participating in Joining Forces through the month of June with a special emphasis on speeding drivers.
Motorists who are speeding are one of the leading complaints received by the sheriff’s office. Last year patrol and motor deputies issued 1,885 citations for speeding and so far this year, 1,138 citations have been issued, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
In 2014, Joining Forces issued 23,964 citations for speeding statewide.
Speeding is a contributing factor in approximately one-third of fatal crashes on the nation’s roadways. Exceeding the speed limit is considered aggressive driving as is weaving in and out of traffic and failing to yield to other motorists.
Grant funding for this event is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety. These monies are used to pay for additional deputies who will be out looking for speeding drivers.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of DUI, distracted driving, seat belt use, speeding and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
