VIRGINIA CITY — Bonnie Matton, president and founder of the Wild Horse Preservation League in Dayton, will offer a presentation on the special needs and issues involving the wild horses who roam the Virginia/Flowery ranges at the Gold Hill Hotel Thursday Night Presentations on Thursday, June 16.

The second suspect connected with a residential burglary that happened last month was arrested Thursday, a Carson City sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Cody Rogers-Shaw was found hiding in a yard in the 1600 block of Marian Street in Carson City at around 11:20 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility.

June is Bike Month in Carson City, and the weather is being more than cooperative. A 22-year-old Dayton man, wanted in connection with a May 20 residential burglary in Carson City, was arrested Friday in Lyon County and brought back to Carson City where he was booked, a sheriff's deputy said.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Gus Fincel, a retired law enforcement officer, veteran and member of the 601 Vigilance Committee, which provides grants and scholarships in the Comstock region, will talk about the original “601 Vigilance Committee” at Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentations at 7:30 p.m.

What a weekend. As the days get longer, the whole valley bustles. Monday has returned, but no fear, there is still fun to be found. Karaoke at Firkin and Fox is a great way to start off the week. Grab your dancing shoes and head to El Charro to learn some new moves with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club. Grab the kids for a night of board games at Nerdvana. For games meant for a more adult audience, the Carson Cigar Company hosts a weekly game night with drink specials for the players.

A “Soul of the Community” survey, conducted by Gallup in 2010 in 23 cities for the Knight Foundation found “physical beauty, opportunities for socializing and a city’s openness to all people” ranked more important that jobs and the economy. This soul is called sense of place and differentiates one city from another at a time when planners are creating cookie cutter cities.

Carson City emergency crews were called to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that happened across from Gold Dust West casino near Highway 50 East. Carson City sheriff's deputies are investigating.

The victim apparently went into the casino to report the accident, at first telling dispatchers that she was at a casino on South Carson Street. The reporting victim appears to not have any serious injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time. She was meeting with fire and rescue crews inside the casino.
