CANCELED: Virginia City fireworks, cruise to continue with social distancing guidelines in place
UPDATE: As of 1 p.m., Storey County Commissioners announced that the 4th of July fireworks are cancelled. The cruise will continue as planned.Click here for the update.
While the annual Fourth of July firework shows began to be cancelled throughout the Silver State in May, Virginia City has opted for a social distancing celebration.
Visit Virginia City published the following release:
Each July 4, Virginia City celebrates our country with a parade, concert and fireworks show. This year in consideration of Governor Sisolak’s guidelines in response to the pandemic, Virginia City is making modifications to the day’s activities while strongly encouraging patrons to celebrate responsibly.
A cruise will take the place of the traditional parade.
While no one will be allowed to congregate along the boardwalk, everyone is encouraged to drive through Virginia City and participate in the cruise. The cruise runs from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4.
Cruise participant line-up starts at the Fourth Ward School, located at the junction of U.S. Routes 342 and 341 at C Street, starting at 11 a.m. Registration is not required but red, white and blue vehicle decorations are encouraged.
No walking groups, animal groups or passing out of candy will be allowed. Spectators will be asked not to congregate along the boardwalk and those that do will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines. ATV/OHVs are allowed to participate during the cruise hour only.
Based on the current phase two guidelines, the Second Amendment Concert will not take place.
At dusk, between 9 – 9:30 p.m., fireworks will be shot off from behind the Silverland Inn & Suites weather and wind permitting. Visitors are highly encouraged to watch the show from their vehicles throughout town and observe social distancing protocols or from the comfort and safety of their own home via Virginia City’s webcam https://visitvirginiacitynv.com/live-webcam
Virginia City is looking forward to a safe, respectful and patriotic celebration of our nation’s independence and values the health and safety of the residents and visitors above all else.
