Sunny days in the fifties are okay for spring, but we still need some winter to come our way. Take advantage of the warmer weather during a Winter Hike along Carson Valley’s Pinion Trail with Muscle Powered. Song and dance kids will want to audition for the upcoming performance of ‘Willy Wonka, Jr.’ If you’re a fan of song, but possibly too old to join the Youth Theater Carson City cast, check out the monthly jam in Silver City at their historic School House. All instruments are welcome, in addition to vocalists and those who just want to listen.

You are in for a Holiday Treat today; the annual Carson City Symphony Winter Concert with Victorian Dancers in beautiful costumes takes to the stage. Take in a play at the Brewery Arts Center or play BINGO at the Senior Center. The Santa Train, the Living Nativity at the Methodist Church, and a remembrance ceremony at Walton’s Chapel are on the list, too. Carson High School's honors biology class students recently shared their thoughts on the school's three native habitat gardens that help attract wildlife, expand learning, and benefit the environment.

The Carson City area is awash in entertainment, shopping, and family-friendly options this weekend. Santa Claus is popping up all over, including at Benson Feed for the annual CASI Pet Photos with St. Nick and aboard the train at our Railroad Museum’s Santa Train. The musical ‘Honk, Jr’ for the young ones and Love/Sick for the older crowd are on the stage at the Brewery Arts Center. Spend the day at the Silver Saddle Ranch: their annual Holiday Open House is the perfect time to explore their trails and learn more about the working ranch’s preservation.

With December arriving we are counting the days until Christmas. So deck the halls, get some jingle bells and wassail away this holiday season. Here's what's happening now through Christmas around Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City areas.

The magic of Christmas Night comes alive again at First United Methodist Church in Carson City. Walk or drive the Road to Bethlehem, lit by over 800 luminaria, through 10 different live-action scenes depicting the night of Christ's birth.

Internationally acclaimed Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble returns to ring in the 2017 holiday season. Join them Sunday, Dec. 3 for 'Winter Wanderings,' a magically entertaining holiday concert. The concert, free of charge and suitable for all ages, will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Reno at 7 p.m.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

Phyllis Lorraine Anker Bendure, 98, passed away peacefully early Friday morning on August 11th. She was born in Reno, Nevada on March 7, 1919, a third generation Nevadan whose grandparents emigrated to Lovelock from Denmark and established Anker Ranch in 1877. That ranch is still in the family today.

I’m sending good thoughts to those in the California fire zones: with as bad as the smoke is here, I can only imagine how bad their eyes burn. Free ice cream and a concert featuring the Capital City Community Band can be found tonight at the First United Methodist Church on King Street. You’ll find free pool, a nice beer selection, and great drinks at Remedy’s Bar on Williams Street tonight. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery celebrates the paper and book sculptures of mother-daughter team, My Thousand Words, at a meet and greet reception tonight. How much fun can you pack into a weekend? That isn’t purely a rhetorical question – it’s more of a challenge. Grab the kids for a day at the Dangberg Home Historical Ranch where storytellers are the featured guests. Locals are in the spotlight at the Rockabilly Riot, the Iron Rebels Car Show is for resident cars only. The bells are ringing at the First United Methodist Church. Handbell Ensemble group, Tintabulations, presents a free concert at 7 p.m.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

The fourth annual International Film Weekend on Feb. 16-18 in Carson City will feature three full-length movies, along with several short independent films.

Rain from Saturday has moved out for Sunday, leaving conditions pleasant and dry for tonight's drive-through Living Nativity scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

In just two short weeks it will be Christmas Eve. Treat the kids to some quality time with Family Day at A to Zen or at the final performance of ‘Elf Jr. – The Musical.’ Let the Carson City Symphony get you in the spirit of the season at the 33rd Annual Holiday Treat Concert in the Community Center. Bring an unwrapped toy and you’ll get in for free to the Carson Victory Rollers’ annual ‘Season’s Beatings Red and Green Scrimmage.’ Keep reading for some great ways to spend the day.

Brace yourself, Carson City. We could be in for some wet and windy weather this weekend. The more adventurous of you will be participating in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold ‘Run with Rudolph’ 5/10K near Western Nevada College. If you’d rather be indoors, the Carson Mall is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair, and at noon will celebrate the grand opening of Ogres-Holm Pottery. Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. Come witness the night of Christ’s birth. Feel the true message of Christmas through our Drive-Through, Living Nativity. Lit by over 800 luminaria, ten scenes depict The Road to Bethlehem. Walkers enjoy the story from a special walking path.

Teachers and students at Carson High School are teaming up to accomplish some amazing community projects throughout Carson City and beyond. One of Carson High School’s own counselors, Nicki Hendee, along with CHS teacher Angila Golik and her honors government class, and a host of local businesses offering support, are collecting anything and everything to do with, of all things, diapers.

Did you miss the Community Art Night last month? Never fear, Artsy Fartsy and the Charlie B Art Galleries are teaming up again for a night of art, food trucks, and more in Telegraph Square downtown. Dress as your favorite superhero for Gardnerville’s Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk. Enjoy ice cream and a concert by the Capital City Community Band at the First United Methodist Church on Musser St. Close out the evening with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

The weekend isn’t over, but it’s beginning to wind down. Catch the Pet Parade as part of Dayton’s Oodles of Noodles Festival. Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Virginia City still has plenty of chili on the menu, in addition to their annual Fun with the Runs 5K. Gardeners will want to head to Douglas High School for the Future Farmers of America plant sale. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Ready for more snow? Let’s just hope that the clouds clear by tonight because the Geminids Meteor Shower is at its peak tonight and tomorrow. If you haven’t caught Wild Horse Children’s Theaters production of Babes in Toyland yet, grab the kids and get down to the Brewery Arts Center for their final performance.
