Widespread prescribed fire operations to continue around Lake Tahoe Basin

Crash at Roop and Long sends one to hospital via Care Flight

One person was flown to the trauma ward of Renown Medical Center in Reno. Three others were treated and released from the scene. The crash happened just before 5:45 p.m.

Care Flight has been ordered and Carson City Fire Department and ambulance were called tonight to a injury accident in the area of Long and Roop Streets. Four people are reportedly injured in this crash.

Submitted by editor on Fri, 11/13/2015 - 1:24pmMultiple fire agencies are fighting a chemical fire this afternoon in the area of Lockheed Way, PSS Structurals in Carson City. The fire started at around 9 a.m. and forced the evacuation of nearby buildings in the industrial area.
Please avoid the area. As of 12:20 p.m. Arrowhead Drive and Lockheed Way near the fire area was closed for traffic.
Carson City Fire Department called to large chemical fire on Lockheed Way

Those who left their vehicles in the area, can now safely go back to pick them up. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A different walk every week on Tuesdays. Walks are easy paced, on level ground, of approximately 1 hour duration, and of no cost to participants. Did you see it? Object flies across sky, observed by people in Carson City, Lyon County
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 11/07/2015 - 7:55pmA mysterious light that streaked across the night sky Saturday, visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona, was a Trident missile test-fired by the Navy, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

KOLO reports it has spoken with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they said the light in the sky was confirmed through the John Wayne Airport tower to be a Naval test fire off the coast. No further details.

A handful of people have contacted Carson City and Lyon County dispatch saying they observed something fly overhead in the skies tonight. Carson City dispatch said they received one call, and Lyon County dispatch also reportedly were contacted by people asking about the object in the sky at around 6 tonight.

Man, dogs rescued after missing overnight in Brunswick Canyon

UPDATE 1:07PM: An 83-year-old man was rescued late Tuesday morning after being out overnight in the snow in Brunswick Canyon. He was found by a search and rescue team, flown out of by a Washoe County RAVEN helicopter, and then taken by Care Flight. He is in serious condition with hypothermia, said Bill Fergus, Vice Commander of Carson City Search and Rescue.
Carson City Sheriff: Few incidents over Nevada Day, Halloween weekend festivities
Submitted by editor on Sun, 11/01/2015 - 2:14pmWith Halloween festivities celebrated Friday in Carson City and Nevada Day arriving Saturday, Carson City experienced very few problems associated with festivities, sheriff Ken Furlong said.
“This weekend was an enormous success in that we had very few incidents to speak of requiring intervention during the parade, during Halloween activities and during the carnival,” said Furlong. “With the number of very well organized activities, families, participants and viewers had a lot of fun without crossing the line. I’m really pleased with that.”

Smoke wafting into Carson City skies from open permit burning and Tahoe controlled fire

Nevadans from north, south, east west and central make the annual pilgrimage to the state capital to honor and celebrate statehood which came, Oct. 31, 1864.
Trailer clips power pole along North Carson Street, both lanes now open

A large trailer hauling cars and trucks clipped a power pole on North Carson Street Friday morning, temporarily closing the north and southbound lanes. The incident happened at around 9:40 a.m. in the 2500 block. No injuries were reported. Traffic is being rerouted.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies, the Carson City Fire Department and NV Energy have responded.

One other patient was taken by ground ambulance to the hospital.

Open burning in Carson City begins Saturday with permit

The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris. In order to make this a safe endeavor for those involved, the Carson City Fire Department will require a burn permit with a valid permit number before burning will be allowed. Permits must be obtained no less than 24 hrs prior to conducting an open burn.

Crash blocking the intersection of Highway 50 and Airport Road. it involved two vehicles, a blue Ford Ranger and a red GMC pickup. The two drivers were fighting when the call came into us. The driver of the red GMC was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence and freely and voluntarily submitted to a blood draw. The intersection was blocked while the crash was being investigated and vehicles were moved out of the way.
Man shot twice in the legs at Airport Road residence; suspect in custody

The suspect was initially identified by officers on scene as female. It was determined during the investigation the suspect is legally a man.

As one who has lived in Carson City most of my life, I have learned through the years that one day the weather can be gorgeous and then the next day: Bam, the countryside is covered with a deep layer of snow.
And once the snow arrives, it is followed by ice and cold weather, which will normally be with us into the month of March.
