It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

There wasn't an official Nevada Day parade in the state capital this year, but Western Nevada College's "Reverse Parade" in Carson City brought some festivities on Saturday.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

While not illegal or encouraged, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is staffed up to make sure that whoever chooses to do anything non-sanctioned, including independent parading on Carson Street, that whatever they choose to do is done without breaking the law.

Celebrate Nevada’s most cherished time of the year in the safety of your own vehicle at Western Nevada College on Oct. 30 and 31. For many there will be a major void in their social calendars to fill on Nevada Day without the annual parade to attend.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with Carson City Toyota, Western Nevada College, and the Carson City Classic Cinema Club to present the inaugural “Made in Nevada” Film Festival, double feature drive-in movies on Oct. 30 and 31, 2020 at the Western Nevada College campus.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Heading into the backend of the work week, events lined up Thursday include day 1 of the 7th annual International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a free information session on the legal and financial aspects of long-term care hosted by Carson Tahoe Care Center, the Carson City GOP will host a meeting to discuss precinct organization, plus trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and a lecture on women’s suffrage movement history in Nevada. All are invited to attend three days and nights of free film showings at the 7th annual Carson City International Film Festival, which runs Thursday through Saturday.

In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Linda Belgray to watch trailers and talk about this year's upcoming slate of movies to be shown at the 7th annual International Film Festival, hosted by Friends of the Carson City Library.

Jukebox International Film Festival, which celebrates music and film, begins its last day of its 3-day run at noon today, Thursday, at the Carson City Community Center.

The day will kick off with a block of music videos, then go right into the pictured films. Another panel discussion concerning copyrights, licensing and other legal matters will be at 4 p.m. The festival concludes with an awards presentation at 9 p.m.

Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. The acting workshop today, Wednesday at Jukebox International Film Festival, in its second day now at Carson City Community Center, just got better. The current VP of Screen Actors Guild, Darrin Miller, will be presenting with workshop leaders Ryan Adams and Alex Emanuel. This is a must-attend event, only available this one time. Admission is $5, and the workshop starts at 2:30 in the Bonanza Room at the Community Center, 851 East William Street.

We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's also a free creative event: "Community Art Card, Creating Social Circle" at Comma Coffee, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. A festive gathering that celebrates music-themed films arrives in Carson City beginning Tuesday, delivering top-notch features about music and musicians, styles, songwriting and music video making.

The Jukebox International Film Festival is the place music and flicks collide, bringing enthusiasts and artists together from across the country to the capital city for three days, offering free showings, meet-and-greets and more.

The Jukebox International Film Festival is pleased to announce their Workshops & Panel Discussions for this year. In addition to 25 films from 11 countries being shown next week, visiting filmmakers will be offering up their experiences and advice in this diverse collection of programs.

The movie “Turn it Up” will be celebrating a "homecoming, of sorts" as producer, director, writer and Nevada native Michael Charboneau brings his film to Carson City for the Jukebox International Film Festival on August 20.

"Turn it Up” is a coming of age comedy about six guys from small town anywhere chasing the dreams of rock stardom. Through sheer tenacity and blatant exaggeration, their band Attitude Problem is offered the headlining slot for a day long music festival called, "Can Jam."

The 2019 Jukebox International Film Festival will be August 20-22 at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.
