Upper Colony Road Fire in Smith Valley more than 1,180 acres, sixth brush fire in Lyon County since June 2
UPDATE: 8:42AM: From Lyon County Facebook page: Lyon County had its 6th wildfire since June 2. The Upper Colony burned more than 1,000 acres on June 17, 2018. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took the fire over at 8 p.m.
The Smith Valley Fire District did an outstanding job working the fire and bringing in resources. Over 300 people fought this fire with 25 Engines, 3 Helicopters, 8 fixed wing aircraft, and 4 hand crews.
Lyon County opened a shelter at the Smith Valley Baptist Church. LCSO managed evacuations with the assistance of SAR and Douglas County. The Large Animal Rescue Team assisted with sheltering livestock.
UPDATE MONDAY: As of 7 a.m., the Upper Colony Fire had burned 1,180 acres and has reached 5 percent containment. The figures have been adjusted overnight. The Northern Nevada Red Cross Disaster Action Team has closed the evacuation center at Smith Valley South Baptist Church after the fire had affected 40-50 homes and impacted 200 people.

UPDATE: 06:10PM: Numerous structures are still threatened by the 1,500-acre Upper Colony Road Fire in Smith Valley near Wellington, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said.
There are approximately 300 firefighters, 25 engines, three helicopters, eight fixed wing and four hand crews on scene fighting fire.
Evacuations are underway. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office and search and rescue are conducting evacuation and traffic control.
Lyon County Human Services and Red Cross are managing the shelter. Lyon County Large Animal Rescue Team is sheltering livestock at Dresser field.

UPDATE 4:20PM: The Upper Colony Road Fire in Smith Valley near Wellington has now grown to 1,500 acres in size, the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports.
Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said fire crews are bracing for more wind this afternoon.
Voluntary evacuations are in effect, and an evacuation center is set up at Smith Valley Baptist Church at 888 Hudson Way in Smith.

Smith Valley Fire Protection District is working a wild fire in the area of Pinon and Upper Colony, the office of Lyon County Manager Jeffrey Page said, and is burning 60-80 acres with 50 homes in the area.
Lyon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is working on notifying people to evacuate to the Smith Valley Baptist Church at 888 Hudson Way, Page's office said.
Smith Valley Fire, BLM, East Fork Fire, Mason Valley Fire, Antelope Valley Fire are on scene.
Fifteeen Engines, two Nevada Division of Forestry helicopters, two heavy tankers, and four seats are on scene. Eight hand crews have been ordered as well as 10 engines.
The Sierra Front Type 3 team has been ordered.
