Schools in Dayton go on voluntary lockdown after report of man in park near school with a rifle
UPDATE 1:05PM: According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Lt. Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.
According to police scanner traffic, the lockdown was lifted though this hasn't been confirmed by Lyon County Sheriff's Office. We are attempting to contact authorities and will update as more information becomes available.
According to the school district via Facebook, it was reported to Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and school administration that there was an individual seen at the park across the street with a firearm.
"School administration immediately implemented a precautionary lock in at all three schools and are in communication with local law enforcement who are working diligently to investigate the allegation. It has also been reported that the individual is no longer in the vicinity of the schools but the precautionary lock-in will remain in place until school administration receives further direction from local law enforcement. School operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure," according to an update posted by the district at 11:55 a.m.
