One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. CARSON CITY — Winners of the “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” fire safety poster contest were announced Friday by State Fire Marshal Bart J. Chambers.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office, Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Nevada Division of Forestry in conjunction with Nevada State Parks announce the lifting of fire restrictions that have been in place since June 30, 2017. Restrictions will expire at 12:01 a.m., Saturday morning, Sept. 23, 2017.

The joyful sounds of bells chiming from atop the Paul Laxalt building in downtown Carson City came to an abrupt halt over the summer because of equipment power failure, said Public Information Officer Mary Woods of the Nevada Department of Administration.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, the Carson City Leisure Hour Club recognized Muscle Powered, an organization committed to enhancing the Carson City environs and the quality of life for its citizens. Accepting the $500 donation was Randy Gaa, Secretary of Muscle Powered.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle crash Thursday night in the intersection of College Parkway and Retail Drive.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is hosting an Open House at the Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24. Besides being a chance to learn about this historic building, this will also be an opportunity to discuss and review possible improvements to dog park areas in Fuji Park and Sonoma Park with FCCPR officers.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is bringing back its Skate and Scooter Competition to the Mills Park Virginia Orcutt Skateboard Park this Saturday, Sept. 23.

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of elder abuse, false imprisonment and preventing his 86-year-old grandmother from calling for help after deputies attempted to serve him a warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The winner of the 2011 Governor’s Arts Award for Excellent in the Arts, Warner takes a fresh approach in her current exhibition, “Second Nature,” which is featured at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City from Sept. 25 through Nov. 10.
