During October, Michael Hohl Motor Company will be holding a pet food drive to fill a pickup for the national nonprofit Pets of the Homeless, based in Carson City.

My daily list of activities might be called ‘things to do in Carson City,’ but I frequently include happenings from the surrounding valleys. Rather than drive all over town looking for garage sales, stop by the Carson City Community Center this Saturday for the inaugural Carson City Community Garage sale hosted by the city's Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

Carson City Parks and Recreation is partnering with Carson Animal Services Initiative again to offer an aquatic adventure for your furry friends this Saturday at the city's aquatic facility.

A strong cold front will bring windy conditions and below average temperatures through the remainder of the week with the possibility of a light mix of rain and snow showers down to 6,000 feet Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Driver Education courses are available in three separate sessions at Western Nevada College in Carson City before the end of the year.

Teens age 15 and older can choose between Saturday sessions that begin on Sept. 10 and Oct. 15, or a daily session starting on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Each session includes four days of instruction, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $100.

In addition to Nevada driving regulations, the course covers how to handle distractions and peer pressure, and how to prevent falling asleep at the wheel or driving under the influence.

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the area of Roop and Washington streets for a misdemeanor criminal contempt warrant issued in August.

The floods earlier this year caused some leaks in various locations of the facility and the Parks and Recreation Department is working on getting the repairs completed before another winter season.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The man accused of firing shots into the home of Carson City Judge John Tatro, and later attempting to firebomb his residence, pled not guilty on Tuesday, Sept. 19, according to the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

UPDATE 10:59PM: Suspect Kyle Steele turned himself in late Monday night at the sheriff's office administration building, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. Both suspects are now in custody.

UPDATE 5:54PM: One of the two suspects in an Oregon homicide late Saturday, Tevin Lafond of Carson City, is in Lyon County custody, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. Suspect Kyle Steele remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Two men from Carson City believed to be connected to a homicide in Oregon are being sought by Washoe Tribal Police and Oregon authorities, with Carson City Sheriff's Office SWAT team providing backup.

The Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Tuesday morning to a semi-truck with overheated brakes that was putting out smoke in the area of College Parkway and Highway 50 East.

Carson City Fire Department and East Fork Fire Protection District have sent brush engines Monday to battle the Woodchuck Fire burning west of Reno.
