Carson City man accused of elder abuse, false imprisonment of grandmother

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of elder abuse, false imprisonment and preventing his 86-year-old grandmother from calling for help after deputies attempted to serve him a warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Steven William McIntosh was taken into custody in the 2200 block of Loire Street at 6:04 p.m. He also faces charges of domestic battery and a contempt of court warrant.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the residence to serve a failure to appear warrant on McIntosh who was facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pointed a gun at someone.

Deputies were also informed another warrant was to be issued soon alleging that McIntosh was using his grandmother’s checks and writing checks to himself. McIntosh had admitted he had written checks to himself, the arrest report states.

Arriving deputies knocked on the windows, front and rear door repeatedly while announcing their presence as sheriff’s deputies. A deputy looked through a window and saw the elderly female sitting in a chair in front of a computer. The deputy saw the female put her hands up to her face as if she was rubbing her eyes. Later the officer checked on the woman again through the window and she was not in the room.

Officers then spoke with a witness who said he saw McIntosh at the residence Monday and that he sees him driving the woman around in a vehicle. Deputies located the car and conducted a records check on the vehicle, which belonged to the woman. Inside the vehicle was a cell phone with a broken screen in the center console.

Deputies continued knocking on windows and doors announcing their presence. They observed a figure inside the home running across the living room. Officers became concerned for the woman’s safety and believed she may have been being held against her will, the arrest report states.

The suspect attempted to go through a screen in the front of the home. Deputies then located the man in the rear of the home, attempting to crawl out a rear door. He was arrested.

Deputies learned the suspect told his grandmother to be quiet when he saw deputies arrive and that he put his hand over her mouth, pushed and dragged her into his room where she was left on the ground. She said she begged McIntosh to open to door for the deputy but he wouldn’t do it. Instead he continued to tell her to be quiet, according to the arrest report.

While on the ground, the grandmother said she was scared and began shaking and so McIntosh threw a blanket on her and gave her a pillow. The woman had red marks and bruising around her mouth. Deputies approximate the woman was on the ground in her grandson’s bedroom for at least 1.5 hours, the arrest report states.

She was checked and medically cleared from Carson City Fire Department paramedics. Deputies learned during the investigation that patch marks on the walls inside the residence were from McIntosh who would get angry and punch holes in the walls. Inside his bedroom deputies found a wall patch repair kit on a dresser, a blanket, a pillow and his grandmother’s wig on the ground.

McIntosh told deputies he took methadone and requested officers grab the prescription and take it to jail with him. He told deputies he had already taken 94 mg of methadone earlier in the day and another 94 mg 30 minutes prior. He told deputies he was prescribed 94 mg once a day. He was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared and then to jail. Bail: $88,137.
