Carson City's non-profit Tazmanian Boxing and Torres MMA Sports welcomed local fighter Ivan Contreras in King of the Cage on Feb. 9 at Silver Legacy. Contreras won in 1 round in 24 Seconds with TKO by Strike out.

Saturday is recognized nationwide as National Ghost Hunting Day as well as Nevada Public Lands Day statewide. Odd as it may seem, the two can be combined at haunts around Nevada.

Carson City Boxing Club is hosting a Zumbathon, Saturday, Sept 29 from 1-3 p.m. at 3579 U.S. Highway 50 East, Suite 219, in Carson City.

There is a $5 entry fee. All the proceeds will benefit the kids in our community.

There will be Zumba, in which all participants are welcome. We will have some sparring to watch, personal training and some testimonials. There will be a raffle, silent auction, some local vendors, and our local Yogurt Beach vendor.

A 36-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with a deadly weapon and a lesser charge following a road rage incident, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

CARSON CITY — The Western Nevada College President Search Committee voted today to recommend Dr. Vincent R. Solis as the next president of the College. Dr. Solis is currently the Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Laredo Community College in Laredo, Texas.

At first glance, tall, skinny and bespectacled Diego Elizondo in street clothes doesn’t look a boxer. But nobody took Clark Kent for a superhero, either. Trading boxing gloves for glasses, the 19-year-old Carson City lightweight snaps right jabs faster than a speeding bullet and is undefeated in his first two professional fights.

Whoever may think that boxing is a sport for the young and fit obviously hasn't met Francisco Rodriguez, a former professional Bantam-weight boxing champion and now a Carson City resident who owns Tazmanian Boxing Club in Carson City.

Following a successful first year as a fundraiser of the Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) and the Nevada Rural Community Partners (NRCP), "A Place To Shine" Show and Shine car show is returning to Carson City this summer.

Rock Steady Boxing of Northern Nevada, an exercise program designed to help those suffering from Parkinson's Disease, has announced its Boxer of the Month.

A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the area of Russell and Long streets for felony suspicion of two counts assault with a deadly weapon, parole and probation violation and misdemeanor obstructing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Children have always been welcome at the Tazmanian Boxing Club, a gym founded by former professional Bantam-weight boxing champion Francisco Rodriguez, himself a father and family man.

Pioneer High School offers the following athletic activities such as swimming, lifeguard certification, weightlifting, basketball, cross country skiing, downhill skiing at Mt. Rose, hiking, rock climbing at Rock Sport Reno, and several events through Project Discovery.

Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.
