Dr. Vincent R. Solis named president of Western Nevada College
CARSON CITY — The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education voted Friday to name Dr. Vincent R. Solis as the next president of Western Nevada College effective July 1.
“I am thrilled that Dr. Solis will be the next President of WNC. His humble beginnings give him a perspective that many of our students can relate to," said Chancellor Dr. Thom Reilly. "During his campus visit he won the hearts of the faculty, students and the entire WNC community. His focus on access and student achievement will take WNC to new heights.”
On Thursday, the WNC Search Committee voted to recommend Solis as the next president of the college.
In Dr. Solis’s address to the board, he said that “no words could encapsulate how humbled and honored” he was for the opportunity. He vowed to “work diligently in his service to the state of Nevada.”
“I am looking forward to serving the WNC faculty, staff, students and members of the community to provide access to students and a great education at Western Nevada College that helps ensure their success as they work to meet their educational endeavors,” said Solis.
Viridiana Miranda, president of the Associated Students of Western Nevada (ASWN) said, “What is exciting about Dr. Solis is all the initiatives that he has done to make sure that students are graduating and getting involved in the college experience. I am excited to work with Dr. Solis and see what ideas we can come up with together to ensure that students are getting the most out of WNC. I hope that he will bring new and innovating technology and programs to the college. ASWN is excited to be working with him.”
Solis is a life-long educator with more than 25 years of service in higher education. He brings to WNC extensive leadership in instruction and academic affairs, student services, enrollment, community outreach services, dual enrollment initiatives, auxiliary business services, special projects, construction, and student success/ engagement/graduation programs.
Dr. Solis began his post-secondary education at Chemeketa Community College and later transitioned to Texas A&M-Kingsville where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology, his Master of Science in Psychology, and his Doctorate in Bilingual Education.
