Tazmanian Boxing Club to hold youth clinics this summer in Carson City
Children have always been welcome at the Tazmanian Boxing Club, a gym founded by former professional Bantam-weight boxing champion Francisco Rodriguez, himself a father and family man.
But this summer, Rodriguez is setting aside time at his gym just for kids.
"Boxing will help kids out of the street to something more positive, clean of drugs and alcohol, for a better future for our community," he said. "Our kids will learn self-control and discipline."
Boxing, he said, offers much more than just physical fitness, which is itself a healthy benefit to youth used to idle, sedentary lifestyles.
There are also the positive intrinsic values of hard work, dedication, and responsibility essential to helping youth make better decisions for their lives.
Tazmanian Boxing Club begins its youth boxing classes Thursday, June 1. The last day of school for Carson City public schools is June 2.
Classes will be held in the evenings from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the summer break at 1701 South Sutro Terrace in Carson City. They will run until the end of August.
Cost is $120 per child for the entire summer. Call Coach Cisco Rodriguez at 775-722-1752 or Coach Desiree Varner at 775-400-6047 to sign up and get more information.
