What's happening around Carson City on Saturday, Sept. 29

Saturday is recognized nationwide as National Ghost Hunting Day as well as Nevada Public Lands Day statewide. Odd as it may seem, the two can be combined at haunts around Nevada.

There's the ghostly ruins of long-abandoned Fort Churchill and Buckland Station, for instance, just a few miles south of Silver Springs off Highway 95 Alternate.

The former U.S. Army post and Pony Express stop is now a state park, so residents and visitors alike can tour the area's history fee-free on Saturday.

The "world's largest ghost hunt" takes place Saturday night at Donovan's Mill in Silver City, while state parks throughout Nevada feature free admission all day Saturday.

Meanwhile the Genoa Candy Dance opens its 99th annual festival Saturday morning in historic downtown Genoa. The event runs through Sunday.

And it's not often you can take your pet out to eat with you. But Cafe at Adele's is opening its outdoor dining today to pets and their owners during the annual "Paws on the Veranda" fundraiser for Carson Tahoe SPCA.

Do you have an event or happening you'd like people to know about? Tell us about it by clicking here, filling out the details and we'll tell Carson City area readers about your event. You can also submit the relevant information, also known as the "5Ws and How” to editor@carsonow.org.
