Lyon County Senior Centers join 'March for Meals' campaign to fight hunger, isolation among aging
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 03/04/2020 - 11:45amLyon County Senior Centers in Dayton, Fernley, Silver Springs and Yerington announced Wednesday that they will be participating in the 18th annual March for Meals – a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home. Lyon County Senior Centers celebrations will include various activities throughout the month of March.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Happenings around the capital city include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, Valentine-themed activities at Carson Mall, a Muscle Powered hike at Clear Creek Trail, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center, the second of three Carson City school zone modification meetings and more.

Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/30/2020 - 4:40pmCarson Mall, 1223 South Carson Street, in Carson City will host a series of Valentine events, Feb. 12-16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The mall will feature vendors, free Valentine Photos by Magical Moments, and chocolate dipped strawberries.
From Feb. 12 through Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visit inside the mall and make a Valentine for a loved one. Then, make another Valentine for a Senior that will be delivered to local retirement homes.
On Feb. 15 Carson Mall will host Family Bingo Night. Proceeds will benefit Carson High School’s Safe and Sober Grad Night.

According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

For that matter, how many adults say they are going to write a book one day, paint like Michelangelo, or seek discomfort, my own personal new year’s resolution, by learning something new, performing selfless endeavors, or fulfilling an item on their bucket list?

Carson Mall Bingo to benefit Jimenez Brothers

This occurred during a return trip from Las Vegas. Alberto Jimenez surfed a broken femur along with a serious facial laceration. His brother Alejandro Jimenez will need physical therapy to strengthen his body after the crash.
