Nevada led the nation in job growth in 2016 according to figures from Gallup’s 2016 Job Creation Index released Friday. In 2009 and 2010, Nevada ranked last among the states.

Daytime burglaries prompt Carson City investigators to ask public to report suspicious activities

UPDATE 2PM: Two men are in custody Wednesday afternoon for suspicion of at least two of three daytime burglaries, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. We will update as we know more. Check back for details in this developing story.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in reporting suspicious activity. Within the the past nine days, three residential burglaries were reported to have happened during the middle of the day.

Unemployment insurance claims in Nevada down nearly 12 percent in 2016

In December, 13,061 initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits were filed in Nevada, a decline of 10 percent from December of 2015. Following the expected seasonal pattern, claims levels rose from last month, though, this December’s total is the lowest for the month since 1994.

Because of fires currently burning in the southeastern part of the U.S., a report has been delayed into October's Little Valley Fire in Washoe Valley that destroyed 23 homes, 17 outbuildings, burned more than 2,200 acres and was caused by a prescribed fire.
