Carson City Sheriff's Office arrests fugitive with $1 million bail sought by U.S. Marshals
A 24-year-old man sought by the U.S. Marshals Service was arrested and booked Monday for a $1 million fugitive from justice warrant out of California, a sheriff's deputy report states.
Nathaniel William Dorswitt was taken into custody at 3:04 p.m. following an operation involving the U.S. Marshals Service, which met with Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators and deputies earlier to provide details on the suspect and possible location of where he was staying.
According to the Barstow, Calif., Police Department, Dorswitt was wanted in connection with a Nov. 29 shooting incident according the department's Facebook page where an entry stated the following:
"On Sunday, November 29, 2020, at approximately 8:32 pm, officers were dispatched to Barstow Community Hospital regarding a person with a gunshot wound. Officers arrived and found a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. The victim reported that he was shot while driving through the Santa Fe Mobile Home Park in the 1500 block of West Main Street. Barstow Police Officers responded to the incident location and located evidence of the shooting. Detective Matthew Helms responded to the scene and as a result of his investigation, Nathaniel Dorswitt was identified as the suspect that shot the victim. Officers and detectives searched for Dorswitt but have been unable to locate him. The firearm used in the shooting is still outstanding.
On November 30, 2020, Detective Helms obtained an arrest warrant for Dorswitt for the charge of PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder."
The Marshals stated they had been looking for Dorswitt, a suspect in a battery with a deadly weapon incident that occurred a month prior. The warrant was issued out of San Bernardino, Calif. Marshals received information the man was at a residence in Carson City.
Detectives did surveillance of the residence and were able to make a positive identification of the suspect, according to the arrest report.
Carson City sheriff's detectives and deputies responded with the U.S. Marshals to the residence, where announcements were made for the occupants to come out of the residence. Dorwitt was booked on two warrants out of California. The other warrant was for probation violation. Bail: $1 million.
In other arrests:
— A 36-year-old Carson City woman, April Netti Faavae, was arrested Dec. 28 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and a misdemeanor Department of Alternative Sentencing offense. Bail: $3,500.
— A man was booked Dec. 28 into Carson City Jail for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Dec. 27, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 26-year-old man was booked into Carson City Jail after being transported from the Washoe County Detention Facility. The misdemeanor warrant was for contempt of court Bail: $3,000.
— A 34-year-old man was arrested Dec. 28 for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Oct. 4, 2020 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
