Senator Square: Destination unknown is theme of Carson High School's 2021 Winterfest

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. The theme, Destination Unknown, was decided upon; since students are not allowed to experience the vacations they love, they are bringing their vacation destinations to CHS.

According to Teen Health and Wellness, Rosen Publishing, “Sharing stories is a powerful way to connect with other people. By sharing your own story, you can connect with other teens who are dealing with similar experiences. Your words can provide hope and comfort, or empower them to face their own challenges.”

DETR: Regular program claimants continue to transfer to state extended benefits

For the week ending January 9, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 9,511, up 1,050 claims, or 12.4 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 8,461 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Through the week ending January 9, there have been a total of 803,738 initial claims filed since the week ending March 14, 2020.

DETR: Claims activity mixed over the week, increases in State Extended Benefits claims continue

For the week ending January 2, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,461, up 1,252 claims, or 17.4 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 7,209 claims, according to data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Since the week ending March 14, 2020, the first week Nevada saw claims increase due the pandemic, there have been a total of 794,227 initial claims filed.

Nevadans on unemployment could see extension relief as early as this week

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Thursday that all unemployment insurance claimants and all Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claimants who still have weeks of eligibility in their accounts will see their regular weekly benefit and supplemental $300 in their accounts as early as this week.

This is only the second increase in regular initial claims activity since October 24. Through the week ending December 5, there have been a total of 783,384 initial claims filed in 2020, 761,732 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Through the week ending November 14, there have been 760,038 initial claims filed in 2020, 738,386 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Through the week ending November 7, there have been 752,795 initial claims filed in 2020, 731,143 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

For the week ending October 17, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,734 down 230 claims, or 2.6 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,964 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Through the week ending October 17, there have been 728,045 initial claims filed in 2020, 706,393 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Regular Initial Claims Up While PUA Initial Claims Dip; PEUC Continued Claims Well Above 60,000

According to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,964 for the week ending October 10, up 1,023 claims, or 12.9 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,941 claims.

Through the week ending October 10, there have been 719,311 initial claims filed in 2020, 697,659 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Initial Claims Tick up in the Second Week of October, Continued Claims Continue to Fall

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 7,941 for the week ending October 3, up 416 claims, or 5.5 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,525 claims.

DETR: Initial Claims at Lowest Point Since Mid-March; Continued Claims Below 200,000 for First Time Since Mid-April

Nevada governor lifts 50-person limit on gatherings, allowing for large events with restrictions

Conventions, sporting events with live audiences and large church gatherings will be allowed to resume once again after Gov. Steve Sisolak announced that he is raising the limit on public gatherings from 50 to 250 people — and even higher for some of the state’s largest venues.

Forest Service beaches, day-use facilities at Tahoe reopen, fire restrictions remain in place

National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. I’ve attached the Forest Orders for your awareness.

DETR: Initial Claims Rise Slightly in Regular and PUA Programs; Continued Claims Decline for 5th Straight Week

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,332 for the week ending September 12, up 381 claims, or 4.8 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,951 claims.

Through the week ending September 12, there have been 686,683 initial claims filed in 2020, 665,031 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Nevada's unemployment insurance claims decline for third straight week

CARSON CITY — Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,032 for the week ending August 29, down 826 claims, or 9.3 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,858 claims. This is the fewest initial claims filed since the week ending March 14. Through the week ending August 29, there have been 670,400 initial claims filed in 2020, 662,368 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Regular Initial Claims Fall to Lowest Levels Since Mid-March

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,858 for the week ending August 22, down 2,080 claims, or 19.0 percent, compared to last week’s total of 10,938 claims.

This is the fewest initial claims filed since the week ending March 14. Through the week ending August 22, there have been 662,510 initial claims filed in 2020, 640,716 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

One student's dream becomes reality for those returning to Carson City's Pioneer High School

Students returned to the Pioneer High School campus Tuesday and found the new CZJ Recording Studio, which was installed over the summer.

The entire project was the dream of PHS student, Zaca U. He shared his idea for Pioneer to have a sound recording studio for students to exercise their creative musical talents.
